I've got the Apexi AVC-R. I had someone else tune it for me and he was overly impressed with it.

I had one and sold it....I couldn't tune the damn thing by myself so I got rid of it. It is a nice piece with a ton of options. Very high quality.

That's why I had someone do it for me, I know my limits and don't want to mess things up. better safe than sorry.

From what I can gather, you need to know what your doing. it's nothing for a beginner to be toying with.

If you ever disconnect the battery, you lose your settings, and your boost has to be stable at over 85% throttle for it to "learn" the boost curve and to actually work or some BS like that. Too much hassle for me, so I switched to an HKS manual Boost Controller.

It keeps memory even with the battery disconnected. My car set for 7 months almost with the batt off. Its just like a computer. It saves memory. And yes if your doing it in learn mod be careful for boost spikes. But overall it is pretty easy to set boost per increment. You would be impressed by what it can do. Especially with the afc on the dyno. There are different options to tune the boost. You can do it in learn mode which learns by gear. Or you can tune it manually. Etc, etc, etc......I call them my GO FAST gauges. MUHA...MUHA...MUHAAAHHHAAAHHHAA

It sounds like you know about the AVC-R. Is there somewhere I can go to get a better understanding of this unit. I have the Manuel that came with it, but I think it's written in Greek :D

Trust me the first time I looked at it I was like" muther fukker"Well....Apex will only give so much info and explanation and part of that reason is to keep the shops in business and the dynos running. Its really a self learn process. You should find soeone in the area thats willing to give you an overall run down. Go over the book many times and you will also pick up stuff you didn't realize. Learn there terminology and understand the features you will, young Skywalker.

What about the Dual SBC Spec S? Its a couple hundred cheaper than the sbcid and doesnt have as many features but do i need that many features?? If i just want a electronic boost controller for the simple purpose of controlling boost is it good? Or should i really spend the couple hundred more? i dont plan on needing it for more than 350 hp (thats a while down the road thou, but i dun wana buy a new one for a long time)

The spec S is is not recommended for high boost applications and to get 350 whp you will be in the higher boost.

The spec R is better for higher boost applications and still simple.

I am pretty sure the spec R and ID use the same solenoid valve.

Dakon: It has 4 user programmable settings or channels and a scramble boost function. Supposedly the dual solenoid unit makes it very accurate and stable. It also has an adjustable gain feature, which I am not too sure if you would use except once to set a relative characteristic about how it behaves with your turbo in general. One thing I wasn't aware of before I bought it is that you have to set boost in ratio. This means that if you want stock boost, you wil program channel 1 as "0" as in zero increase percentage over stock. Since the SR comes boosted at 7psi, setting max boost (will be channel 4-highest setting for me) at 14 psi means setting it at 50. I guess I had thought I would just dial in the amount of boost in psi, but this way is fine too. It also looks extremely cool.
