I am thinking of going SC or Trubo with the engine but dont want to hassle with the immense cost of parts and labor of upgraded internals.

I wonder what are the book hours for install of a new VQ35de into a 2004 350Z?

After some reserach it seems I can get a brand new complete VQ35de for a bit over 3.5k ..

This inquiry is, in case after a couple years of 5.6 psi, the engine goes south.

Fred..

i will have to double check but it wont be much. honestly every single thing i have done to a z33 has been easy. i was expecting a labor hog like the z32TT but the z33 is just easy to work on(stock ). transmission is easy, harness is cake, front of motor has lots of room, exhaust is easy, etc. let me try to remember to look it up though.

18.2 hoursim suprised its that high. it looks easier. at my dealership that equates to $1575 +/- $100for comparison a mercury grand marquis with 4.6 liter v8 is 8.1 hours and a z32TT is like 24 or so hours(i cant remember exactly).

on the side, do you really think it would have to be done every two years?

the book usually estimates over what it usually takes, at least what ive figured from it, since it is flat rate

It'd almost be worth it to fly Chris out, pay for his meals, and drop him some coin to do it in your garage...

22.5 just for the rering. i assume that a full overhaul would bump that up just a hair.

side note: drove a greddy tt z33 today. it was quite nice! i think you could put together a better package for less.

You must pull the engine to an engine stand then remove the heads then the pistons..............much much longer than a simple engine swap.If you pull the pistons might as well change the rod bearings [supercharged loads] at the same time.

Who will be as precise as you might want to pay for is the question?

Just have a prebuilt spare engine ready at all times and swap periodically.

Finally these 3.5 will be plentiful due to US sales [wrecks] now.

Spare engine is a good idea if you have a place to store it. I seen a engine out of a 03' go for $1300 on ebay about 2 months ago. It probably didn't have more than 25K on it.

somewhere around $2000 would be right. dennis is spot on. as hard as i try i am not as good as the factory. my measuring tools are only "good enough". my torque wrench was never top of the line.i would love to do it but you could do better
