I did a search but didn't find anything about this.

I have an 01' Xterra with a VG33E engine. I've seen more and more SC's off of the VG33ER from frontiers and newer xterras show up on ebay. I was wondering if the M62 SC off of the frontier/xterra would "bolt right up" to an 01' non-SC block?

Also, how would the ECU react to the SC?

Please let me know of any other issues that may be of concern...

Thanks for any help on this

I've also heard that he bottom of the engine (crank and bearings) also have to be beefed up to handle the additional loads. The OEM SC engine has this bottom end beefed up at the factory. How true is that?

Thanks Again...

very true! the crank bearings are different between the 2 engines. the xterra's you have seen have vg33er engines in them it is the sc model xterra. the unit is not a direct fit to a standard xterra the intake manifold is different. Ecm is also different there are controls to put the SC in bypass when the improper octane is detected. along with some other controls.

In all honesty it would not be worth the expense to put that charger on yours. Your money would be better spent in trying to turbo your vehicle. the boost on the charger is not all that great. it sounds really cool when it winds up but thats about the only boost you will really feel like your getting,an ego boost. I dont know how strict your smog laws are there with engine swaps. but you have a couple options there, you could go with a pthy 3.5l which has good accel NA or you could hold off a bit and wait to see about the new engine coming for the xterra. dont have specs but rumor stage is its getting a 4.0l VQ style engine soon.

Just asking... What does a dealer get for a complete VG33ER (new or used)

Also, would swapping out motors be as easy as that? I have a 3" body lift installed so I think there would be ample room for the SC.

they dont sell them complete it would be a long block. no intake or exhuast components. guesstiment would be aroung $6000 then you gotta purchase the charger and all other components. if you are dead set on doing this you should probably check with a wreaker for either a frontier or xterra with that engine in it and get the ecm too. both the vehicles are the same so it wont matter which one you get it from. but you need to get both from the same vehicle. I believe ,but am not 100%sure on this, the harness for NA vehicles is the same as the SC. way to tell is look for taped off connectors to the harness on your vehicle ond compare to the SC vehicle see if they are hooked up on the SC.

So if I get an engine from a salvage yard, what would I be looking at for an install cost (providing that everything goes right in and bolts right up)?

Thanks!

not sure . are you doing it yourself? have no idea what ashop out there would charge you. but it should be a direct fit.
