bogging at around 90mph

Im having a problem with my 1990 240. First off, Im a girl so please talk to me lamest terms no auto talk lol.okay heres the problem. Once im in 5th gear everything is okay. the speed is increasing, but then when it hits 3500rpm it bogs or stalls and goes down to 3000rpm and then startws up again and does the same when it hits 3500...Do you guys have any idea what this could be?

Speed limiter..? Even though I thought it doesnt kick in until 4500 rpm in 5th @ 120 mph..

There is a govenor on the motor that stops it from going TOO fast. It's at like 115 for me though.Hmm possible fuel cut?Maybe you should change out fuel filter and/or fuel pump. Could be a fuel cut.

Yea. my dad thought it was some type of chip...if it is that can it be removed?Also they just told me one of the injectors is leaking, so thats gonna be changed. could the injectors do this?

welcome to the forum, pink bone. Your 240sx should not hit speed governor at that speed. You need to take it to a mechanic. We can bore you to tears on what we think it is, it could be a leak of air, bad vacuum, or a bad Head gasket. Please let us know what you find.

areb you gonna try to fix it yourself or are you just going to take it to a mechanic anyways?

no i wouldnt touch my car. i know nothing about them lolThe mechanic is fixing the injectors and other stuff and then see if it goes away with that. If not he will look into it more.

the reason i asked is because if you work on your own stuff or if you or someone else has modded it theres things that if arent placed, positioned, tuned, wired right, etc. will cause that problem ...

apparently, our mechanic couldnt find the problem! I have no clue why its doing this. Its driving me crazy! HELP!

have u tried to recreate the problem after fixing the injectors? maybe the air intake element is extremely dirty restricting air at that speed? does this occur only at 3000-3500 rpm in 5th gear? how about at other rpms/gears?

Does your Speedometer act funny sometimes? When your car shuts down, your hitting you top speed limiter. My cars speedo doesn't work and It happens to me at random times. Anywhere from 3000 to 4500 RPM's There are 2 options for removing that. One is having someone re-tune your ECU or Engine Control Unit. Its located in the passenger side "kick panel" If you look at the speaker in the passenger side door. its right in front of it behind the plastic. Anywho, Have your ECU retuned to remove the Speed Limiter OR Find an ECU from a 240sx with an AUTO transmission. Put that ECU in your car and it takes away the Speed Limiter and Rev Limiter. Just don't "bobble" a gear trying to race someone. They'll be nothing there to save your motor from "free revving"
