Body Control Module (EX35)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,

I was recently at the dealership for an issue wth my enter/exit automatic seat adjustments and they told me that the BCM is 'shot' and needs to be replaced if I want this function to work again...does this sound right? If the body control module was shot, wouldn't there be other failing features in the car?

Here's what I can tell you...
1) All manual seat adjustments function normally when the car is on or off (8 way seat adjustments)
2) comfort and convenience setting to "ON" for both move seat back on exit and also raise steering wheel on exit
3) when the car is turned off, the seat automatically goes back and the steering automatically wheel goes up. When I start the car, the steering wheel does not move, and the seat moves approx 1 inch and just stops.
4) I have reprogrammed both sets '1' and '2' multiple times and still nothing.
5) I've unplugged the battery to try and reset the computer, still didn't work.

I guess what I'm asking is can it be something other than the body control module or is this the only possibility with the symptoms I have named?

Thanks for any info that can be offered...its not life threatening but very annoying.

How do we deal with these first world issues?

Welcome.
Did they get any trouble code from the BCM?
The first thing I would do is the initialization procedure on ADP-9 if you haven't already. Here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/EX/2009/ADP.pdf
I think the BCM is somewhat unlikely, as the big things it does for the ADP (Automatic Drive Positioner) system is to tell it that the key is on, and if the drivers door is open or closed.
The fact the seat moves at all suggests that the key and door signal is present at the Drivers Seat Control Unit.
The DSCU talks to the ADP control unit ,which then operates the motors in the column, seat and mirrors.
Look at ADP-21 here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/EX/2009/ADP.pdf
Either the ADP control unit isn't getting the command to raise the wheel, or is unable to do so, due to something like the tilt sensor having a fault.
But it works manually so that reduces that likelihood of a tilt sensor problem.
They should check for a signal to the tilt motor from the ADP control unit, and work from there.
I hope this made some sense. This is a more complicated system.
Good luck.
