2010 Rogue AWD SL

I just recently noticed a collection of leaves and other debris in the body cavities directly behind the front mud flaps.
This debris is only visible when the door is open.
:wtf2:

I had to take a stick and drag this stuff out of the body and it looks like tree stuff from the two trees that have shed on the car for the last 4-5 months.
There might have been 2/3 of a cup total.
It can't be good for the body to have this vegetation holding moisture in these silly pocket.

How does this junk get there and how do I stop it from collecting again?

Depends on where you live it could be from gnomes, tree sprites or wood nymphs. Try sacrificing a KIA salesman (kidding!).

Anyway, living in a heavly wood area I've delt with this for years. Pine needles everywhere. Cut down several tress, but still have to clean out debris on a regular basis from multiple areas on my vehicle. Had to evict a spider yesterday. Isn't nature wonderful?

Yeah, Nature's great, but that doesn't address the issue.

I have never had a car that had semi-enclosed pockets in the body that rodents could nest in.
Is this carpy design on the part of Nissan or are there body parts missing?

Oh. Thanks, but it's no longer necessary since you seem to have it under control. :bigthumb:
For a moment I thought you had managed to post one of my pictures.

That's the place I'm talking about; on both sides of the car.

It seems there's drainage out of those areas, but my concern is that vegetation and stuff will keep moisture from draining & drying; leading to mold & potential rust.

Guys I have news for you. I have a cover there! I took notice of the small hole and realized a clip goes in there and took pics of my car which I will post later tonight

My 2008 Rogue SL also does NOT look like that, I believe that is where my plastic "mud flaps" are mounted which seals this area. Does your Rogue not have the little plastic mud flaps on the front and back?

My 2011 has the same problem and ImStricken's picture looks really interesting. I don't have that "pipe" and "cover". I don't understand. Did Nissan decided to remove another piece from 2011 and 2012s? (after the center console tray and glove box divider). That Rogue really started to annoy me...

thats not a pipe - thats actually rubbery caulking. this might have been either discontinued, or not used at all in Canadian Models. not sure why, maybe cost effectiveness, or weight reduction.

Yeah in a "tropical" country like Canada, no need for that cover to protect the hidden corners of car from rust..what a minute, "rust"..what is that???

Hmm, a manufacturer leaving off a non-critical part to save money? Say it isn't so! For the sake of arguement, let's say a pair of covers costs a total of $6. I don't have exact sales figures on hand, but assuming Nissan sold 82,000 Rogues last year, you then multipy that by $6 and you get $492,000. Makes you wonder if the guy who suggested this nearly half million dollar savings got a bonus? :tisk:

My 2008 Canadian Rogue does have the cover piece as is shown in ImStricken's photos - I agree that sure seems like a ridiculous way to cost save/cut corners. It's so obvious that a piece is missing becuase the top mounting hole not to mention the gaping void full of debris. I don't know what to say.

Well you could say that the next time you're at the dealership you'll ask them to look up the part numbers, and then post them here for us what ain't got none. Please! :dblthumb:

Today I looked there closely and I don't think we can add that piece without removing the fender (or even door). I will clean that area every car wash and curse Nissan.

It is good design not to cover that. The front wall is where the mud flag attaches to. Snow and dirty would get in eventually. Keeping it open helps it drying out faster and easier to clean. My Mazda has the same open area.
