I saw that some people were using the bmw knock sensor instead of the nissan unit. I am monitoring knock with the xs knocklite so I decided to give it a shot. First time out the car was missing as boost was coming online. I'm thinking that the ecu is changing the timing map due to the bmw sensor. Has anyone had success with this sensor on a stock ecu?

If its not working for you, you probably wont find people who have done that. The wiring is pretty simple, so if its not working for you its probably not gona work for anyone. However it doesnt really make sense that you would miss under boost, the knock sensor input isnt supposed to be used at high throttle.

People use the BMW knock sensor with stand alone ecu's(or knocklights) because BMW knock sensors are one of the best units out right now. Never heard of anyone using a BMW on a stock ecu. You might want to research disabling the stock ECU knock input, its pretty useless from what i understand.

Your problems pretty easy to fix hehe..

Not sure about wot it was running pretty bad i didn't want to risk it. I'm thinking the stock ecu is unable to use this sensor. Have you ever heard of anyone disabling the knock sensor input to the ecu? I'm wondering what timing affects i would see. Right now the boost is at 11psi but shortly it will be a bit higher so I want to try to avoid timing issues if possible.thanks

Ahh so that was light throttle boost? Makes perfect sense now. If you wanted to, you could go out right now and make a WOT run, your car would pull fine.

I just unplugged mine and had no problems with it, s13 ECU though. I cant say for sure if this is the right way to do it, but i know it worked for me. You can always try to just unplug it and see what happens, you wont hurt anything.

Each knock sensor is tuned for the motor it's supposed to be installed on. Meaning the frequency it picks up or the amount of noise it will detect will be different for many vehicles. The BMW is a quiet motor, so the sensor picks up small noises and sends that info to the ecu. The ecu then retards timing based on the severity of the signal.

The KA is a LOUD motor. So simple math means the ecu is now being told that it's knocking ALL the time.
