Hello again...

Thanks to all your help and opinions, and all the reading and test drives I have done, I have cut the Acura TL out of the running... So now, its down between the G35 or G37 coupe, and possibly the BMW 335xi.. I know the engine and HP is lower on the BMW, which isnt the most important for me...

If I am looking for:1) Dependable transportation2) Something fun to drive3) bells and whistles4) performance and styling

Does the infiniti G have the BMW beat hands down ??Any prior or current BMW owners willing to help me out with an opinion??

Thanks!!!Druggist

edit : God, I can't believe I spelled that wrong

I don't like German cars. I think they are overrated and over priced. They will probably get very similar reviews. Most magazines pick the bmw because they love bmw's. We love infinitis here. I love my car and i think you will have alot of fun in it. Lots of mods for our motor and or exterior if you want to make your car stand out. It really depends on your preference.

of those 3 cars the g35 is the best bang for the buck. it is a lot more expensive to maintain a bmw than it is to maintain a g35.

Everything you just said you wanted is there and much more in the G35/G37 and at a better price than the BMW. Should be an obvious choice.

Get the G, you won't be disappointed.

Out of your four points, the G35 takes the cake. I don't say the just because I have a G35...I ride in a 335i on a daily basis (when my boss and I go to lunch) and it just isn't the same. The G35 is a more fun, enthralling, exciting, comfortable, and downright less expensive experience. The interior is nicer on the G35 (yeah, even before the 07+ redesign) as well...iDrive sucks!

Take the money you save when you buy the better car (G35) and make it even better with a few upgrades!

You said you were looking for dependable transportation, then why even consider a BMW.Better lease if you go with BMW,that way you can walk away from it as it gets older.

sbdruggist:

Frankly, I doubt the BMW can handle the daily punishment a G-35 or G37 will ahndle on a daily basis, judging by the many national and international complaints about the BMW reliability. I have visited other countries and the story is the same. I don't have a BMW. I have a 2007 G-35 Coupe 6MT.

Issues I have heard or seen with the G-35, in most cases tend to be manufactuerer defects, which are covered under warranty. Think about the warranty. Infiniti gives you 60,000 miles engine warranty + 70,000 miles transmission warranty and BMW gives you 50,000 miles engine + free maintenance for that period.

I don't mind paying for the maintenance on my G. The car si too exciting to drive. I flog the car routinely and I am sure very few cars can handle such stresses at 20K + miles. The G-35 has proven to be mostly reliable even into their 100K + miles. Thinks about that---can a BMW reach such a milestone without issues?

There is a memeber of this forum called G-woods, who routinely races his G-35 and I beleive his car is now close to 50K + miles. We haven't yet heard of any problems with the car.

Yeap,

They are not that reliable cars they used to be.

Also you pay more. I used to have a bimmer 15 years ago but that was really good till a ding dong ran a red light and t boned my car.It was 4 years old with no issue. After some of my friends bought bmw and all they had just problems. Same with the Audi.Never drove a grman car after. I will refuse to drive one till they learn to make reliable cars for less.

After owning a VW Passat (German) for seven years I vowed to never buy another German car. After about 3 years I would sink $1000-$1500 a year just to keep it running. This threw the BMW out of my list of choices. My buddy bought a 335 a week before I bought my 08g35. He has already had a check engine light turn on as well as a defective tire. Thats in 4 weeks of owning it!!!!

Asking this question in this forums is going to be a real biased opinion towards the G. Ill try and give you a unbiased opinion as I have driven both and i don't like BMW, and own a 07 M35.

1) Dependable transportation. I know the Infinity's have been known for their reliability, but i can't comment on the new BMW's as I've never lived with one.

2) Something fun to drive I've Driven both the g35 and bmw335 in and out of traffic, and as much as i hate to admit it the BMW felt much better. Driving in and out of traffic the BMW was a much tighter and solid feeling Vs the Infinite, and it was soo much easier to accelerate out. The 335 has has the twin turbos and i believe makes 300Lbs/torq vs the g35 268, and the torque comes in at such a low rpm on the Bmw it's such a breeze to pick up, where as the Infinite i felt i had to give it much more gas and rev it to make it go. Even though the 335 only has 300 horsepower vs the G35 306/ and 330 of the g37, from what I've heard the Bmw is still quicker 0-60 than both the 35/37 and the 1/4mile is faster.

3) bells and whistles The G's win hands down in this, The BMW i drove just had a nav screen, and some cheap looking audio system and thats it. It looked very plain, the g35s tech was like Nasa compared to the Bmws interior. Although material wise the Bmw felt much cleaner, and looked a little more upscale ( just my opinion).

4) performance and styling styling wise there isn't a better one over the other, it's just a matter of preference here. Performance is mentioned above, but at the end of the dayif both cars were in the same price range i would choose the Bmw over the Infinite in a heart beat. Only problem is you'll be paying extra $$$ for that BMW badge, which is up to whoever it may concern if they think it's worth the money.

VWs are pieces of crap assembled in Mexico. Ive never seen a VW last more then 80k miles. The transmission dies. VWs are no different to dodge neons to me. All crap.

I stopped looking at the BMW's and all European models as a whole once I read Consumer Reports, Edmunds and other reviews. The main point brought out by all was individual tastes may vary, but reliability and cost to maintain are significantly higher for the BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Volvo's, etc.

If you like knowing your mechanic well, driving a gray-blue Chevy Imapala loaner while your car is in the shop, having the garage name a door after you, then by all means, by the beemer. Consumer reports once stated that a 10 year old Lexus was more reliable than most new European cars!! What more can be said.

Jags and Mercedes have problems as well -.-

Can't say much bad about Volvo. Just don't really like their style. However these European cars will have higher resale then our American cars.

Both are great cars.

You will get a much better bang for the buck with Infiniti.

You won't hate the BMW ever though, is my guess. I drove one. They are awesome

My previous vehicle was a 1992 Lexus ES300 5 speed manual. Had it 14 years That was the best car I ever owned. That is until I purchased my G 35.My first car that 1958 Ford @#%$$.......I try not to think about it but it...........

So why do woman buy Infiniti's?

I drive a Audi A4 and I am not happy. I constantly have to dump money into this pos because of a sensor dying or some other electrical gremlin. I will never buy another German car.

Sure the BMW is more fun to drive but its annoying when you come out of a mall and your car won't start or the CEL light comes out.

hey sbdruggist, i own a 07 g35x and a 08 335xi. my 1st infiniti, my 1st bmw. not much time with either one but here goes.

dependable ? can't say, only 1 year g35x, 1 month 335xi. from the sound of it it probably is the G. (no probs w/either one so far)

fun to drive? 335xi. more solid chassis, more stable at speed , 6 speed vs 5 for the G, much more torque much earlier, in sport mode - shifts much quicker, a tad harsh on bumps , but that ma be the run flat tires, faster than th G.

bells and whistles? g35x - no comparison MUCH better interface , intuitive controls ( almost no need to look in the manual to learn how to use it). the best nav i've ever used. has more than i need. the bmw has nav and the dreaded i drive - it does suck.

performance and styling? bmw has the performace, g35x has the styling

the g35x is more comfortable and a little roomier ( front and back)

if you ENJOY driving, get the bimmer, if you like to drive and like/want the bells and whistles , comfort, get the G. the bmw was about $ 9K more.

there are after market "go fast " parts for both cars. if money is not an object, this is a VERY HARD choice to make. an way you slice it, the g35 is more bang for your buck. sorry for the long post. thesr are just my opinions... good luck, you will be happy with the one you get.

So I can pick up really hot and sexy guys who make witty one-liners such as: "Hey, I know you from somewhere, right?' To which I'm required to respond every time with an equally witty: "Save your breath. You'll need it to blow up your date!"
