Can someone help me out and explain how is voice "shortcut" feature supposed to work on Infiniti's newest, 2010 bluetooth phone implementation (talking about non-nav model here, if it makes any difference). The manual I have is ever-so-slightly off to what I'm seeing in my car, and it's pretty confusing.

I've set the link between my Iphone and the car, and I can call Iphone's phonebook entries by saying "Call", then waiting for the voice to tell me what to do next (or interrupting it by pressing a button) then speaking a name of who I'm calling. This all works without any voice programming on my part and it works nicely. However, in the manual, it says that if I record my own voice for some of the phonebook entries, I can immediately dial those entries just by saying "Call John" for example. I cannot for the life of me to figure out how to get this to work. I can record my voice signature for a phone entry, but all this does is it uses my recorded voice to announce who it's calling, instead of the default computer voice.

I still always have to say just "Call" then wait, interrupt, then say "John". I have noticed (and it says so in manual) that I can sometimes string a few voice commands together, and it works great, like "Phonebook, List Names". But this never works when I just want to call someone. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it is?

You may have to turn on alternate command mode.

From my 2009 G37 sedan Owners Manual:

"INFINITI VOICE RECOGNITIONALTERNATE COMMAND MODEThe following section is applicable when AlternateCommand Mode is activated. (This mode isselected by default for Canadian customers.)The Alternate Command Mode enables the operationof the display, audio, and climate controlthrough Voice Recognition. When this modeis active, an expanded list of commands can bespoken after pushing the TALK switch, and the voice command menu prompts areturned off. Please note that in this mode the recognitionsuccess rate may be affected as the number ofavailable commands and ways of speaking eachcommand are increased. To improve the recognitionsuccess rate, try using the Speaker AdaptationFunction available in that mode. (SeeSpeaker adaptation function (for AlternateCommand Mode) later in this section.)In the Alternate Command Mode, review theexpanded command list for this mode, as somecommands available in the Standard Mode arereplaced. Please see the examples on thescreen."

I think that mode, and the global voice-command in general, only exists if you have a Navigation module installed, which I don't have. I was looking in the manual specifically for the non-nav section of bluetooth:

"Personal vocabulary (voicetags) :Voice Recognition System is equipped with the function called “voicetags”, which can be associated with the phone number and name in the phonebook. Using the voice tag will automatically generate a speed dial to the registered number.See “PHONEBOOK REGISTRATION” earlier in this section. You can call the identified number using the following command: “Dial” followed by the voice tag.

"The system allows for up to 40 voice tags to be recorded. You can record a voice tag for phonebook entries that the system has difficulty recognizing or to directly dial an entry with multiple numbers. To record a voice tag:1 Press the button and wait for the tone.2 Say “Phonebook.”3 Wait for the tone, then say [a name] or say “List names.” Select the name for which you want to record a voice tag.4 Say “Record Name.”

I did all of this, and when I recorded a voice tag for a certain entry, I still couldn't dial it just by saying "Call [name]", or "Dial [name]". Maybe this just doesn't work the way I thought it would, and "speed dial" only means that I get an access to one of the numbers when there's multiple numbers associated with an entry?

I feel your pain. The blue tooth system (and the NAV) are the only two things I don't like about my G37. I had an Acura and like their handsfree interface much better.

One shortcut that I found that I use a lot is simply: RedialThere are no follow up prompts, the system just dials the last number dialed. Works well if you don't call a lot of different numbers.

Please keep us posted if you make any progress.I'm done beating my head against this stone.

Umm.... my 06 Coupe bluetooth works with "Call [name]"

I don't have NAV, and I would guess a later model G would work too? Confusing

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I was wondering if anyone was able to figure out the "Call Name" shortcut w/o going through all the menus on a 2010 Non-Nav model.
