I purchased a new head unit that has bluetooth. My current mounting position is near the top of the windshield (driver side). The sound seems to be a little muffled - I read that someone had another person tell them that their voice sounded like it was in a fishbowl, that might be a good way to describe the way my voice sounds with the mic in it's current position.

I have several questions:

Has anyone determined an optimal mounting position for the bluetooth mic?
If I get a 3.5mm splitter and get a second mic, would the sound quality improve? I'm guessing there would be some loss, but I'm able to increase the gain from the head unit.
Is the sound quality determined by my phone, or by the mic? When I've used a bluetooth headset with this phone, there's no distortion, so I'm guessing the sound quality is determined by the mic.
Is there a specific mic that anyone would recommend? I'm thinking of getting one of the twin mics that's used with the Parrot bluetooth kit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

My bluetooth mic is mounted in the plastic side panel that runs along the windshield from top to bottom(driver's side). My friend ran the wire behind this panel and then put the mic about 3/4 way up(almost at mouth level for me). I like this location as it's very unobtrusive...I forget it's there, and I haven't had any complaints....everyone says they hear me just fine. Maybe this would work for you?

Thanks for the response. I actually took the mic out from it's current place near the top of the windshield and held it out while making a few calls to see which sounded best. It sounded pretty good right near the rearview mirror, but I wound up putting it in/under the enclosure for the overhead light where the Bose system with Bluetooth has it's mic mounted. It sounds almost as good as near the mirror - not an incredible difference. I like that it's completely hidden this way as well.
