This is confirmed? I saw nothing about this in the manual. Have you done this yourself? I'll have to give it a try later.imboimbo wrote:Hey guys, like someone already mentioned, if you transfer the number from your phone, the name thats associated on your phone will be displayed when that person calls you (car w/o navi).
A little late answering this but I just figured it out and I have a question too.dbinaz wrote:I would like to know how to transfer the book as well instead of manually adding all the names in.
Hey dynot...just wondering how you were able to get the names to show up on the display after transferring the entry via bluetooth. I'm assuming you mean that the name shows up on the same screen where the radio information is displayed?dynot wrote:

First, I don't have the Nav package so this applies for those without it. After you record the name for the phonebook entry you are asked for the phone number and have the option of transferring it from your phone instead of speaking it out. I just found out doing it this way will also transfer the name as set up on your phone. Now when that person calls you get the name.
Here's the annoying part. You are then asked if you want to add more numbers to that name. I assumed that when you do, any of those numbers associated with that name will display the name. Unfortunately, that's not the case and only the first number displays it. For example, I transferred my wife's mobile number and added by voice her office number and our home number. The name only comes up with the mobile. Odd since all three numbers are associated with that entry. BTW, took me about an hour to enter about 15 numbers!
My question: anyone know how to get the name to pop up for all numbers? Also, any chance the software running can be updated and uploaded using bluetooth or will we always be stuck with this archaic way of entering names?
If you use the transfer option it should display the name stored in your phone address book. I have a Motorola RAZR V3 and have found out some additional quirks when transferring entries.hangtime23 wrote:

I don't have the nav package either, so right now, when somebody calls me, it only displays the phone # when they call me. I've tried transferring the phone # via bluetooth when creating a new phonebook entry for the car, but when that # calls, it still shows the # only, instead of the name that I have stored in my actual cellphone.
What kind of phone do you have, and how did you get that set up?
I've tried doing exactly the same thing that you did, but the 'text tag' from my cellphone just doesn't seem to ever show up properly. I've tried entering the name into every possible field that my cellphone stores for a person (ie. email address, home address, birthday, etc etc), but none of them show up when that # calls. Actually, now I'm wondering if it's because the # I have stored in my cellphone doesn't match exactly as what's coming up on the display? I usually store my contacts with a + before the actual #, how do you store yours? And when people call you (that aren't in your phonebook), how does the # show up on your dashboard display? Mine always shows up with a "1" before the actual #, would I have to store them in my cellphone contact list the exact same way as it shows up on the dashboard for the text tag to show up properly?dynot wrote:

My phone address book holds multiple numbers for each name (office, mobile, home, etc.). When I select a name to transfer from my phone. it will transfer only one number to the location in your car's address book and that number seems to be only the first one entered for that name on your phone. This may be specific to RAZR's only so you may not get this. However, the transfer option should send a 'text tag' as I like to call it which will be displayed when that number calls. Each location in your car's address book has its own text or name tag. In my case, since the RAZR has one name associated with many numbers I had to create a single name entry for each number, therefore Halle Berry, home...Halle Berry, office...Halle Berry, cell and transferred these to the car's appropriate location under home, mobile, etc. So now when Halle calls me from her cell Halle Berry, cell appears.
The steps to follow are:1. Say Phonebook, New Entry (you can say both commands together)2. Record the name3. Select location (home, mobile, etc.)4. Say Transfer entry; this is the only way the name tag gets to the car's address book5. On your phone you should have an option like "Send" under the details view for that name & number; don't know what other phones say but you can check the phone's manual6. Confirm to store number
Hope this helps.
I think I'm gonna give up on this...I've tried entering the phone # in a ton of different ways - +14169671111, 14169671111, 4169671111, 1-416-967-1111 (yes I figured out how to include the dashes in there as well), and none of them seemed to work!dynot wrote:I only have 1's along with the area codes; no + signs.
If I recall correctly, before I set it up the current way it did not show the 1 for local calls but did appear on long distance calls. Try it that way and if that doesn't work remove the 1.
Sounds like you have a different phone and that may the problem. As a last resort, I'd try setting up a simple entry on your phone with just a name and one number and upload that.
ooooooh...hey that's a good idea, I wasn't even thinking of it that way at first - I was thinking to pair my friend's phone with the bluetooth system, and then transfer it, but I guess if the car is just waiting for any bluetooth data when I ask to transfer the entry, I should be able to use any bluetooth device to transfer that info.dynot wrote:I was going to suggest that.
Find a phone that you know will work (such as the RAZR) and enter each name & number. If its some else's phone then you can just over-write the same entry and transfer each one at a time so that you don't have to fill up his phone with your numbers. May take some time but it doesn't look like you have much choice.
The phone doesn't even have to be activated.
I wonder if this can be done with a laptop? After all, all it is is a transfer of data by bluetooth. I'll experiment and post the results.
