Blue Tooth function cause strain on cell phone battery life!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello Group,

We take ownership of the EX since 1/3/09 and my wife notices that the blue tooth function has been consuming the battery power of her LG-VX-5500 phone down everyday! She has been charging the phone every night to make sure the problem is not cause by the phone and may be the EX. I am wondering dose anybody else out there experiencing anything like this! And looking for solution and fixes!

I notice the same thing with my K razr phone from AT&T. It appears that the phone is in broadcast mode all the time when blue tooth is activated.

There is no solution or "fix" - using the bluetooth function in your cell phone causes more battery to be drained because you have to power the bluetooth device in the phone. Running more devices requires more power.

FYI, folks ... I have had my EX since Apr 2008, paired my Moto SLVR L7 with it over Bluetooth since day 1 and never had any battery drain issues.

Congrats on the new EX and Welcome to Nico!

Marlin made a very good point.

Bluetooth technology in all devices stay constantly connected, not allowing the phone to go into standby mode. I think that car also sends a status signal for the icons on the screen for battery level and signal strength.

What I tell my customers is to go and pick up a car charger, and leave your phone plugged in.

Good Luck, and enjoy you EX.

I hardly used BT on my phone before i got my EX, after 3 months of owning My EX caused me getting a new phone since my old phone stayed on for 5 hours max w/o recharging. I have read article if you keep your BT device connected, your cellphone battery gets drained twice faster.

Thank you for everyone’s feed back and comments; including the one about women use cell in excess! Trust me I did mention about the frequency of the cell usage but she claimed the usage as same as before. So, indeed is the BT acting up. We also try turn off the BT function on the phone but the phone battery is still draining. I suppose one other option to try is to turn off the BT function in your EX at night!

That's odd - if the phone is no longer configured to search for, nor maintain a Bluetooth pairing, it's hard to believe Bluetooth is the cause of your battery issues.

That's why I think we need to disable the BT in the EX to see what really causing the problem? The EX or the cell phone? I will keep you inform!

Hi everyone, we did it. As long as your blue tooth function is off from your phone; you will bw able to maintain the original battery consumption level. This proofs that the EX blue tooth function will suck your cell phone battery dry.

Note: We have the Nokia 6205

As it's been stated...a simple 20 dollar car charger prevents this.

My LG Chocolate doesnt seem to be effected buy it.

If your cell phone is 1 + year old and you constantly leave it turned on it's probably time for a new battery anyway.

An easier test would have been to turn the Bluetooth on your phone off if charging it isn't an option. The Bluetooth technology in the car itself will try to pair or detect a phone from it's "paired phones" list.

There doesn't really sound like you are having a problem at all, its quite the contrary. Excessive talking on the cell is causing the battery to drain......you need to understand what exactly the phone is doing while you are using it. Battery reserve is being used to the transmission of the call, while the phone is sending and receiving signals from the bluetooth (very power hungry) all simultaneously creates a good deal of heat energy which also speeds up battery discharge. It's the down side to adding more technology in a very small space.

Cell phones have one primary radio - that communicates with cell towers and ultimately is the primary purpose of the phone. You throw in an additional radio (bluetooth in this case), that constantly communicates with a device (car or headset or computer), you will run down the battery of the cell phone quickly. The same is true with a GPS (yet another radio) enabled cell phone. I probably get 3 hours of life using GPS constantly vs 4 days of inactivity. The car has nothing to do with it, it's a question of having a sufficient battery in a small portable device that can constant power 2 radios. You could rent another car that has bluetooth to verify this, but I think your money is better spent on buying a charger for your car.
