Blue smoke means you're burning oil so, being a TTZ, I wouldn't be surprised if it were the turbos acting up. May also check your PCV valve, make sure it isn't sticking as they can allow oil in.

Its possible it could be an internal issue (rings, scored cylinder wall, headgasket, etc.) but not likely. If you want to check that anyway, a simple compression test should give you a good idea of the internal condition of the engine.

My bet is one of the turbos might be on its way out.

Agree. The turbo seals in the center section (or CHRA) can wear out and slowly leak on both/either the inlet and outlet sides. So you will have oil burning out the exhaust as the oil will burn right at the point of exhaust exit. Now oil will also leak into the forced induction side (ie, the inlet turbo piping). An easy way to tell if your turbo seals are leaking is to pull off a coupler for the turbo and check the pipe for oil. If they got oil, there is a good chance it's the turbo seals.

Also agree with the above statement about PCV replacement. Keep in mind there is a bypass for the PCV's as well on TT.net VTF section. PCV diagnostic is really not much more than a basic "eyeing it" technique. If you have oil on them, they have hardened over time or show signs of cracking; they probably need replacement or addressing as well.

Good luck either way.
