Blue Dots on OEM Rims...

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

You can remove them. The entire car has all sort of dots on it. These are inspection/installation dots. Most car manunfactuers use them. Some use paint, like Honda. Each item/part that has been put installed on the car it has to pass inspection, since this is done a dot or paint mark will be made to say that it has been cleared for the item to be installed. Each paint/dot color represents who checked this, what assembly line.

If you think the engine campartment is bad, you should see behind the dash board. I counted over 77 painted marks. I have been on the assembly line before actually watching how cars are made, AWSEOME, I must say.

The SRS system can have over 100 marks/dots on them.

Hope this helps.

I have no idea what they are but I would love to remove them if anyone knows how to get them off. I have tried ever cleaner that I always use and work on everything except the blue dots.

To add another note:

DO NOT REMOVE THEM.... If you ever need service on a car and say a part that went bad doesnt have a dot/mark, then they will call the manufactuer to let them know that it didn't past inspection or get inspected. I have experience with this before.

If this is on your rims, you can remove these. No worries there, sicne rims dont go bad, unless if you hit something, etc.....

Like I said earlier. I would not remove just yet, wait until a year or so. I never remove mine and I had a part go bad, because of my car, I was told, that one part was not checked on the assembly line for all my model car and within a year that car had a recall. It was due to the fact that the wrong size clamp was used on that part. I was told that every car on the assembly was not inspected for the part, so they recalled all the cars for a clamp. So it is very useful to have. If it wasnt for that mark, the service people would of not known of this issue, but when they didnt see a mark, they questioned it's install.

THANK GOD FOR THE MARKS!!!

All this dialogue matches up with some of my original comments.

Maybe the Factory should have said something in the Manual about all these damn Dots.

Does the BIG-3 do this too, or is it just a Japenese Car thing

Everyone does this, this is a government law. Some car makers do less, meaning less inspection, like Ford. I used to own 4 Ford cars, all the parts that went out before the time, was not inspected. Things that make you go HMMMM.

From experience, The Japanese car makers have stricter laws, labor laws and regulations that will create more dots. I like that a lot and will always buy a "J" car.

I believe that all Infiniti cars have 8 inspection points, whereas ford, Hundai, GMC, Chysler, etc have 3.

And yet, the EX-35`s still suffers from Leaky Sun-Roofs, Noisy Fuel Pumps, Faulty Tilt-Wheel Switches, Defective Steering Racks, Weak Hatch Struts... and a host of other problems discussed on this Forum.

I`d rather have better quality control and better parts... than a Thousand Dots, anyday.

I hear what you mean, however, you should note that all these problems are being taken care of right away. Here is what seperates Infiniti from other makers, once they hear of an issue, they find a fix right away.

I had a Mazda, Ford and GMC and when a TSB came out they never fix the cars until a Recall came out, even though my cars broke down 6 times (5 tows) and after two years, then they fixed it. By then, I got a lawyer and called them a lemon.

The higher end cars are different. Thank God for that.

All cars have issues, some are worst than others. It all depends on the maker how they handle the TSB/recall and fix. I assure you that Infiniti is one of the best. A TSB comes out and two months later they are fixing it for the cars on the street, however, for the cars in the plant, they fix them on the spot.

I do not work for Infiniti, so all my statements are real. Thanks.

Infiniti is actually using the blue dots for ballancing reason also beside the inspection purpose.

Sometimes you can see red dots on the tires and they are right beside each other.

Blue is the heaviest part of the wheel and the red is the lightest part of the tire. Red is not always there. Since tires are lot better ballanced than wheels.

It's to help match up the tire to the wheel using the least amount of weights for the smoothest balance. No tire or wheel is perfectly balanced so this is a way to match them up with the least amount of balance mis-match.

I have to drive sometimes loaners when I am in the States. I drove EX 3 times and every single one of them was suffering some kind of rattle, noise and one of them died just made it back. Died on me in the parking lot. Looks like EX is kind of behind the Infiniti line up in the quality department. I drove FX, 2 differnet G's plus my 2 G's and 1 M45 and all were/are awesome with no issue. Actually my 07 had wind noise kind of whisle above 110mph. They fixed it.

Are they making the EX in the same plant where they making the others? Just doesn't make sense.

This is what I thought, too. Some early Chevy's I bought, their Rims came with Decal Dots to signify the heavy spot of the Rim... and then the heavy spot of the Tire was placed 180 degrees opposite.

Funny thing you say this, when my last car had the blue dots, my mechanic said that they were in the wrong place for being for ballancing. He had to rebalance them and not use them as a guide. FYI: No red dots on the rim or tire at all.

Did he just ballanced the wheels or wheels with the tires on? Blue dot is just for the wheels not with the tires.

The red dot is not common. They only putting them on if the tires are out of spec when they are ballanced. I only found it on the M45 loaner and only on one tire. Also some other members found very few of them.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. No wonder why I dont always see two color dots. The tires where on the rim.
