So driving down I-275 a couple days ago I feel a vibration, pass it off as the roads are bad. It turns into a rumble, pass it off as the "Sanford and Son" pickup truck next to me. Rumble gets alot louder, truck is now further away. Look in sideview and see chunks of rubber flying from my car...hmm....not good. Decide to pull over as soon as what I guess the "seperation" happened and handling became like like driving on ice with summer tires on.

So after pulling over and stopping 20ft in front of barricades that were blocking off the shoulder due to construction(lucky) I was able to inspect my little tire problem.

More on these links. Enjoy!

I think the best part was that spare tire had NEVER been used before AND it still had the proper PSI in it! hahah...new tires were purchased and installed within 3 hours. Spares are NOT cool. Amazingly no rim damage whatsoever. I balanced the tires myself and all was perfect.

Man! What happened to that tire? One thing I noticed with the spare in the rear tire is that you have to turn off the TCS. With the spare being smaller, the TCS kept going off and I would have no power. Kind of freaky until I figured what was going on.

fuelslut is a racing site based out of orlando. I host my pics there. Used to be on there alot when I had my 2000 Trans am and raced alot..

225/50/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE930 I think. nto sure on which model it was.

Tire wear is just the pic. It was even. The tires sat unused on the maxima rims I put on the car. Not sure how long they were sitting so all I can attribute to it is "dry rotting?"

The inside of that rim seems ground pretty good.

Running different size tires on the rear end may over heat the viscous fluid in the VLSD and prematurely end its life.

That is not the rim that is the bead and sidewall. Both sides stayed intact and never let the rim touch thet ground.

Bridgestone makes some of the nicest performance tires!

RE92 tires...which is what thoes are. Suck. Theyre just an OEM mass market tire, on everything from Maximas (thats a maxima wheel), to Suzuki Areo's, subaru WRX, to other cars.

That tire dosen't have the load rating to handle the Q. Slightly low on pressure, could cause that tire to fail.

Thoes tires arent all that great. The q45 definatly shouldn't ride on thoes tires.

On the otherhand Bridgestone So-3 or RE 750's are great for summer

Bridgestone g009's are wonderful all season performance tires.

All season performance is an oxymoron created by tire company marketing departments. The highest performance tires are always summer tires.

"All season" is a code phrase meaning "a summer tire with compromised performance that's neither really an acceptable winter tire."

Not true summer tires suck in the rain and snow....

Thats also not true... Many ultra high performance tires (Goodyear GS-D3, Bridgestone SO3, RE050, Michelin PS1 and PS2,etc etc) are very good in the rain and dry... But they are not good in the snow.. Once you get them below say 50F theyre about useless...

A performance all season tire would be like michelin pilot sport AS where theyre a summer tire that can run in colder conditions safer than a summer tire, and can handle very small accumulations of snow... Still not recommended for winter use but can be used under very light circumstances.

Exactly correct.

In fact, summer tires usually perform better in summer rain conditions than their AS bretheren within the same brand. Read the TR tests.

Say what? I'm not quite sure I follow you here. I'm going to have different size tires on the rear.

He was referring to using the spare tire and running different sizes on the rear axle alone, not different from front to rear.

I second the motion, I love bridgestones. I have the SO3's on my 300ZX and they are far and away the best tire I have ever put on a car.

Glad you're okay dude, that was ugly, make sure to get rid of all those tires and get some with proper load rating for your big beast, it ain't no Maxima weight wise.
