was driving my rb240 today and the turbo blew up, upon rmoval i noticed that the compressor blades were in pieces and laying in the compressor housing so i removed all the intercooler piping and there wre tiny pieces all the way into the tb, then when i removed the turbo from the car i noticed that the exhuast wheel ws gone and that it snapped at the shaft and nust have went out the exhaust. before removing the turbo the car would not boost but it ideled ok and there wasnt any knocking or any unusual sounds coming from the head or engine so im hoping that whatever made it way into the engine didnt do any damage.

the car had only been drivin 13 miles since i got it back from having the swap done and it was only running at the factory wastegate boost pressure about 8 psi so i have no idea why this happened unless it was already damaged before i got it back and knowone noticed. the company that at this time will remain nameless agreed to send me a replacement rb25 turbo so im hoping i can put it on and flush the oil and clean the pan out and the car will run like it should ,

any advise from anyone who may have had a similar exp?

These turbos will give out eventually if taken past 10psi. I have seen it done personally and have heard numerous times of others giving out as well. They are ceramic wheels and over ageing with pressure and heat they will get very weak and eventually break loose from the wheel or shatter it.

Sorry to see that happen, sucks.
