So I recently noticed a rattle, vibration, or distortion(not sure what to call it, its very hard to pin down as a sound in the car) coming from my right front dash. The weird part is my music doesnt really sound bad . . . or like its missing any frequencies . . . just that is has this extra noise along with it now.

It only happens when hitting certain frequencies and sort of 'goes along' with the higher frequencies in my music. Is this enough to tell if I have a blown tweeter? Is there an easy way to figure this out for sure?

Take the grill off and see if the tweeter is fastened down securely. If not, tighten it up and see if that helps. If it isn't loose, try taking it out and see if the problem goes away.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the speaker? If you blew the speaker, it wouldn't really do anything (it would make some noise, but definitely not music). The only time I've heard a speaker sound distorted but still play is when the cone/surround is torn (and this is highly unlikely for you as there's really no way to rupture either with the grille in place). The best way to check what is going on is probably also the most difficult. If I were you, I'd pull the grille off and remove the right dash speaker (I refuse to call that thing a tweeter). Then either connect a different dash speaker to the right connector or connect the right speaker to a different connector and see if it sounds different (I would use the center speaker as it is much easier to get to than either of the side speakers). This will be kind of a pain, but you'll know for sure what's going on.

Thanks guys! I hadnt checked up on this thread in a while, but man this annoyed the crap out of me this morning on the way to work. It only buzz's during the really high pitched guitar parts in some blues i listen to, and in some metal.

I gota do an overall rattle check on the car today when i get home, i KNOW there is a panel rattling in the back right of the car somewhere so I will definitely check this out for a possibility for the front before i take anything apart or replace anything.

Thanks again!
