well i have a potentially serious problem i think.

every so often my car puffs a blume of white smoke

it burns NO oil*** BUT recently i added a little too much oil when i did a change ...***

it only happens at around 2500-300 rpm, in traffic

it dosent do it at highways speeds on constant throttle.

theres no mixture of oil/coolant in teh radiator , and my oil is fine. coolant isnt milky at all ( just rusty)

also my turbo sounds different then when i first did that swap, it has a high pitch whining to it, and at around 5000 rpm my boost drops off to 4-5 psi

so i pulled my plugs off today and this is what i found

all 4

normal

cyl #3 **** thats rust NOT oil****

and a teaser from HIN

any suggestions on what could be happening? i need my car to stop smoking.

Reading from the Book of Chilton: An oil fouled spark plug indicates an engine with worn piston rings and/or bad valve seals allowing excessive oil to enter the chamber.

Hope that helps?

Sorry bout that, pictures kinda blurry. You said it was white smoke, I'd say check your intake and ecu and see what if its running too rich.

yeah i have a feeling might be running a little rich.

my a/f gauge nearly always reads rich at idle and when WOT it runs rich too.

how do i adjust my MAFS? like which direction do i turn it to open it up more?

the only codes on my ecu are 34(knock sens - not wired up) and 13

as for that asss

im a marksman lol

AND THW WINNER!

I think you need an aftermarket ecu to adjust the ratio, but I'd check with another CA-T owner and see if they've had the problem. sorry I can't be of more help.

What kind of turbo do you have. Because I'm pretty sure on BB turbos, oil level is key, it can't be over filled.

Your plugs don't seem that black, so your not running insanely rich.

And for that plug to be rusty, it must have gotten water from somewhere.

Do a compression test, that should help, you narrow down things.

The only problem you have is a bad turbocharger. Get the turbocharger repaired or replaced, make sure your timing is at 15* BTDC and keep your boost pressure at 10psi or less and your car/engine should be just fine.

ahhh thank you sooo much dee for your help, i had a clue that it might have been my turbo, so is it just burning water from the seals in the turbo?

the turbo is the original stock one, i will do a comp test sat and i guess we'll go from there.

thanks again!!

It is the sign of a failed thrust washer as well as a failing turbo seal. I wouldn't waste time with the compression test unless you are just curious. Other than that, your problem is really minor. And the stock turbo is as old as some of the members on this forum, so it is time for it to go bad.
