Buddy, you bought the wrong car. CVTs are not designed for high performance, neither are Versas for that matter... Versas have a high center of gravity, pedestrian brake performance, excessive weight... great for commuting, but not for tuning.

I agree that the CVT wasn't built for the performance minded individual, but I totally disagree about that the V would be a good car to tune. High center of gravity? I toss my V around corners without much body roll at all or lifting any tires off the ground. My truck has a much higher center of gravity than the V and it's still can handle its own. The V isn't "excessively" heavy. Although it is 200 lbs heavier than the Fit, that's not a lot at all in the auto industry. You can stick a heavy set person in a fit and a lightweight in a V and they would weigh the same. If you're taking this to the track, it's a huge thing. The brakes aren't bad at all. People seem to say, "Oh the brakes are bad" because the V tends to fishtail when you don't have ABS. If you don't have ABS, slam on the brakes, the brakes lock, what more can be done? The brakes have done all they could, stopped the tire from spinning. The rest is up to the driver. Weight distribution and nose dives tend to cause problems with the V stopping without ABS. It's a great car for commuting, but as with every vehicle you can make it into something amazing if you know what you're doing. And that doesn't mean going to Wal-Mart and buying as much as you can to put on the v.

As far as how much power you can put into the CVT before blowing the transmission, I don't think you have much to worry about. I've seen 255hp CVTs from Audi and they don't seem to have any problems. I wouldn't be worried unless you were planning on doing some type of forced induction. Going from 122 to 255 will be a huge jump.

You can definitely tune a V with CVT, but if you're looking for more HP, you need to know some stuff about CVTs. You would definitely need to change at least the belt, if not the entire CVT, so that it can hold the stress of increased HP. If you're ambitious, do some research and see what it would take to throw a turbo on the CVT, maybe it can be done, if you're willing to void your warranty. I'd wait until this car was older, when you have it as a leftover car and you have a new one. The last thing you want to do is fcuk up your DD.

(wirty durd)! My freakin soft top Sidekick (which is less likely to roll than a hardtop) was way more likely to flip than my V... I love cruzin my V around corners at increasing speeds! I second Proxim.

There's not much out there at this point. I wouldnt expect to see that change for another 5 years, when 16-18 year olds start buying them used. In the near future, and I use that loosely, I could see something from Procharger or Jackson Racing in the way of an intercooled centrifugial super charger. This would be a great option. They would give a decent amount of HP and Torque but keep the car very driveable. A pulley system should be out soon as well. Until that happens, all we have is a cold air intake.

Yup, and I had a 4 door hardtop JX, and I actually drifted in it, and NEVER felt like it would flip. My dad was actually sent a letter from Suzuki to testify in court for them years ago when Consumer Reports had that big controversy about the Suzuki Samurai. He had that Samurai for years, went off roading once in a while, and then we bought the Sidekick, never once did they ever flip!!! Lets put it this way, I spun out on the freeway the other day, did a 180, but was sliding sideways for a good ohh 7 seconds, and never even went up on 2 wheels. If that happened in the Samurai or Sidekick though, I am sure they would have flipped under those circumstances though.

yea, it is fine TG, the only thing that really happened was stress rash on about 4 inches of the LF tire, but other than that, nothing happened. I was very VERY lucky.

HAHAHAHA I just realized that I asked if it was okay and didn't ask about you! sorry, I assumed that you were okay and it's good to see that you are in one piece and so is the V... From another post I gather that you didn't actually make contact with another vehicle, just had to move to miss it (a Jetta if I remember correctly)... (anyway, sorry to take it OT)

I have driven the new Altima with the 270hp 3.5 and CVT and it sure doesn't seem to have any problems.

in my opinion, if ur going to be doing any tunning to ur V, start by converting it into a 6sp....because everyone can step on the gas pedal....and comparing the cvt transmission in a NISSAN to the one in a AUDI is purty dumb....the V is an economy car and the AUDI is not...lol....but yeah, the V is a great car to tune...im sure you will make the right choice! good luck!
