My s13 blew out the left rear strut on a wicked pothole a week or so ago, so I ordered 2 new KYB GR2's for it, and installed them tonight. The left was out of shock oil and totally useless, as suspected. The right was just starting to leak, but I did it anyway. Put my springs on, re-assembled everything, torqued wheels etc and went for a drive.

Car feels 100x better, but when I pulled into my garage and got out I heard a hissing coming from the right rear. I checked it out, and the strut seems to be leaking the nitrogen gas already. Its not a tire leak, when I touch the damper where it enters the strut body I can hear a change in sound.

Has anyone ever had a new strut blow on them like this? I'm pissed, because its a friday night and I got them through my supplier at work so I can't get a replacement until Monday now...

F*ck

Well the strut is definitely not working properly, its noisy going over bumps and has a bit of shock oil on top of the shock body. I'll be calling the supplier monday when I get back to work and asking for a replacement free of charge. I haven't driven over any potholes, and I installed it the very same as the other side...

Guess I'm gonna need to extend my rental on the spring compressor.

Hey, I'm new here, but i've been reading here for a while now.

With regards to the GR2 struts, i've purchased a complete set with tien s-tech lowering springs over a year now from enjuku and so far (knock on wood!! ) i haven't had a problem with them, considering that some of the roads there in Guyana is not too good.

I put GR2's all the way around on my 91 about a year ago and stayed with stock springs. About 3 months ago I put pro kit springs on and stayed with the same GR2's. It has been riding good this entire time. May just be a defect in that one. I would see if KYB or who ever you got it from will warranty it since its only been on there for like a minute.

the gr2's do leak. i had some on my vert with tein s-techs for about 2 months.. then i put it up for the winter. i drove my white coupe in the winter burnt out the stock struts so i took the gr2's off the vert to put them on the coupe. i noticed they leaked alot.

just spend the money.. buy some coilovers. cause i don't feel like changing my struts every year.

my red coupe has coilovers.. never had a problem

I figure if it failed in less than a 10 minute drive it was defective. that is unheard of for strut failure...
