Think internal across piston seal leaks vs. EXTERNAL housing seal leaks. There are multiple seals.Shocks wear out [lose resistance] long long before they leak which is a total failure.

Many shocks are internally pressurized with Nitrogen to reduce foaming and to supplement rebound [self extension]. Measure the time it takes for a compressed shock [without the spring -standalone] to self expand........New vs. old.

Blown [failed] is a broad word. The usual question is how much away from new spec the shock is.........10-20 even 30% may not be feelable to the average driver but race drivers complain about 5% changes. Just as they notice 1 psi tire pressure changes.

Normally oem Tokico [black or blues] are good for 3-4 years depending on car weight , roads, and bumps per mile/foot.

An advantage of fully adjustable shocks [both rebound and compression] is that you can keep adjusting them toward stiffer to compensate for wear.....making them very cost effective concerning replacement. The 50% higher initial cost yields a 100-200% longer total life.

Shocks always feel weaker in Summer heat due to temperature [viscosity] of fluids getting thinner!

Most of the European top end dampers are designed with that in mind as well. The Koni Reds are what they call 'standard adjustable'. While you can't adjust them once they are installed, they do give you the option to undo the lower end and dial them up to restore performance every year or so as needed. They may cost a little more but are a better value in the long run.

thats some very informative information, thats funny because everyone that thinks the shock is no good is only when they see oil leaks, thats how i was told also and now that my left rear shock makes noises ( sounds like somethings loose ) people say that the shocks fine and told me to check if i left something loose when installling them....i that im 80% sure that theyre failing it kinda sucks that i cant get them rebuilt here, my suspension is tanabe sustec-o...any suggestions on as to how i can get them rebuilt??? thanks

You might want to check with the maker to see if they have a factory rebuild program. Most of the better companies offer that service.
