I'm looking to put a VG30DETT into another car, but I was told the other day that they go through a lot of rod bearings. this guy seemed to know just enough to make me wonder if he was right, but he didn't instill confidence either . I was wondering what experience you guys have had with this. Do they go through tons of rod bearings and need frequent rebuilds with moderately hard driving? I appreciate anything you guys can tell me about these engines.

As most ppl will tell you a TT engine is not gonna be the easiest or most problem free engine, but I have never known it to be a terrible platform either. The bearings, before you drop it in, you could just put new ones on if it is hitting high mileage. However if you leave it be, and you are going to put it under some high stress situations it couldn't hurt

Personally I do not go through bearings like a mad man, but I tend to throw a set on after I do major work on engines that are higher mileage like piston work and changing out cams or workin by the crank. The motto is better safe than sorry, and protect your work. I'm gonna tear down my Z this upcoming summer, new pistons, you bet I will have new bearings so I don't have to go back in there.

They are what, 40.00 or 50.00? Small price to pay to add some longetivity to the engine. God knows its one of the cheaper internals to "spruce" up

bottom line, I would not worry too much. If its gonna bug you, check out what it envolves to replace them and decide from there.

Z32's like oil changes. If you don't change the oil often the bearings are soft and will score easily. Alot of people run the z31 turbo bearings instead they are more resiliant. If you are not building a race motor and you change the oil like you are supposed to then you will not have any problems.
