I acquired a 1993 240sx recently and last night it overheated. I managed to get it home and noticed a ton of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. I let it cool and this morning the smoke continued to pour out. The car also has a loss in power. I checked the compression of each cylinder and got

Cyl 1 - 180

Cyl 2 - 179

Cyl 3 - 180

Cyl 4 - 180

I searched and the compression seems to check out. the oil when I had just ran the car looked brownish somewhat milky. Would compression be what it is if I have a Blown Headgasket or is something else wrong?

ANy help is greatly appreciated.

having compression just means that your headgasket blew between a coolant passage and a oil passage this just means it is contminating your lowerend with water instead of your piston. replace your headgasket and oil

replacing a headgasket isnt hard...

I took my head off in 20 mins a week ago.

granted the motor was out the car, but with the tech right article, the usual tools, and a 14 mm allen sock.

its as good as down.

GL, post here if you have questions on how to do it.

Thanks guys. I pretty knowledgeable when it comes to cars but never done a head gasket job. Only two more questions:

Would I need to take the head to be resurfaced?

what do you guys think of the head gasket sets on eBay? I have seen head gasket sets on ebay for a little over 20 bucks.

Kalypso, is there a write up somewhere with a step by step? otherwise I will probably just get a repair manual
