Water pump went out on my wifes '89 240SX, now the head gasket is blown.

She is driving my old car around right now but I am trying to see if it is worth trying to fix the engine or get a new one.

Would the old head be warped and useless?

Has anyone gone through this before.

How much would a new/used engine cost and where could I but one?

:help

Well my head gasket went out about a month ago. I decided to just rebuild the engine. For the most part you should be able to just pull the head off, take it to a machine shop so they can just shave a little off the deck so it flat, to help with not have a problem later after you put on the new gasket on. nissan gave me a quote for the work at 800, i told them no thanks. could be done for about 200 in parts, but alot of work.

I did the work myself, just sent the head off to be machined. Head kit is ruffly $180 at autozone, The machining cost me about $140, plus other parts such as belts etc.. If you are going through the work of pulling off the head, a good thing to do is replace at minumum (sp) the timing chain guides, best to do the whole set though. By the time I was done, I believe it all came out to around $650 will all new parts.
