just bought a 90 240 sx with blown head gasket. Head is off and has been sent for overhaul. has sat open for 7 months before i got it.

How can i clean carbon and rust from cylinder walls and heads? and or is it necessary.

any tips on putting head back on re gasket , bolts, etc:

thanks

make sure all surafces are surgically clean when putting head back on, and do the bolts in order to torque specs

How much rust are we talking about?

If it is a light "powdery" type just wipe the cylinders down with an oily rag to knock off the loose stuff. Turn the engine over by hand to get all the bores. Compression WILL suffer a bit but you should be ok.

If it is the deep "flaky" kind don't bother putting it back together. Rebuild it or swap it.
