Just curious if anyone is interested in purchasing a GT28R with 800 Miles, less than a yr old, turbo is in good condition except for blown turbo seals, no shaft play. If you were to drive it you wouldnt even tell theirs a problem except for the smoke when at a intersection.

Unfortunatly garrett isnt gonna warranty it as its a Turbo from Nissan Japan.

Are you sure it's the turbo is causing the smoke? sounds like valve guides to me.

yea we did a few test, and its hard to miss the oil soaked air filter, the puddle of oil in the compressor, oil dripping from the bov, and exhaust tip with oil residue. At first I thought valve seals when the smoking first started, but the more I drove it the worse the smoke got until it got to the point where 4 lane intersections are covered with smoke.

Are you sure you don't have a restriction/kink in your return line? Typically blown seals leak even more when revs are up and oil pressure increases.

Where are you? I've got a GT28R that I screwed up the compressor blades on and you can't just get the blades.

I think I'm gonna buy a Turbonetic turbo. They're a single ceramic BB turbo, and they're fully rebuildable!

I did notice a kink on the return line, do you think its possible if I fix the line it would aleviate the problem?

What would you sell that GT28R for if you let it go?

I hadn't really considered it, but I don't know that I wouldn't sell it either. The oil seals and such are fine, it's just that something got sucked into the compressor and dinged up the blades pretty good. I started wondering what the problem was when the car was making boost, but sounded weird and my intake temps were higher than normal.

I looked into rebuilding it, but I was told from MULITPLE different REPUTABLE places that the GT series turbo's from Garrett can't be rebuilt. They won't sell the blades and apparently it takes a special machine to balance them properly and there is only like 3 of them in the US. They all told me the same thing, "You could get it fixed, but for the money you could buy a new center section for less money." A new center section is $600. The turbo has got a whopping 7K miles on it. It cost me about $900 brand new. It just seems ridiculous that it can't be repaired.

I know that after this I'm not sold on the new GT series turbo...

I emailed them. I'll be surprised if they tell me anything different.
