So i walked out to my car the other morning and went to start it and somehow i lost compression to 0 over night. It was running fine one day and one cold night the next nothing. plugs were all fuel soaked to crap. compression tests yielded 0 compression in 5 cylinders and less than 50psi in the rest. have not checked timing yet but a quick view inside the VC i could see the cams turning. For grins i put in some new ngks, put the coils back on and put it all back together and still crank/no start. i did have a bad injector on #6 causing a miss under load for somewhile but besides that regular maintanance on the engine was maintained since i got it at 185k. engine now has about 200k on it. previous owner advised he had the chain and new guides installed before i bought the car. So unless anybody here has any more ideas for me to keep tinkering with it I need to find a good used VH45. Preffer very low mileage and upkept motor if possible. dont have too much more that 1300 to spend. Any advise on the quality of the JDM engines from Japan Ive seen on ebay would be helpfull. Or of coarse if anyone has an extra powerplant please let me know asap im driving a saturn till i fix this! thanks for all your help guys.

Sympathy on the Saturn.

I think you need to do a wet compression check to verify you have indeed lost compression.

Did you try the flooded starting technique outlined in the OM? If you pumped the gas at all, you probably washed your cylinders clean of oil an thus have no compression. Running it for a very short time when cold and shutting it off will do the same.

Hope you used the FSM specified NGK PFRG-11 plugs and no others?

Man that sounds awful - it sure sounds like loss of timing to have no compression on 5 and so little on the others, but it's not obvious why both sides would loose time at the same time. You may want to look under the timing cover.

ITS FUNNY YOU SAY THAT BECAUSE THE NIGHT BEFORE I WENT OUT AND IT WAS A NO START IT STARTED UP RAN LIKE **** **** MISSING ALL OVER THE PLACE SO I SHUT IT OFF RIGHT AWAY AND TOOK MY OTHER CAR. IT WAS COLDER THAN !?#*! THEN I WENT OUT TO START IT THE NEXT MORNING AND NOTHING. AND YES I PUT THE RIGHT NGKS IN IT. WELL MY NEXT DAY OFF THAT I CAN MESS WITH IT IS TUESDAY SO I GUESS ILL TRY THE FLOODING START PROCEDURE IF I CAN FIND IT AND IF THAT DOESNT WORK ILL TRY DING THE WET COMP TEST.THANK YOU GENTLEMAN FOR ALL YOUR HELP

Maybe he didn't change the tensioners or just did the passenger side. Look at the RO and report back the detail, if you have it. Or call and ask precisely what was replaced.

Was this guy a NICO member or lurker? Timing covers may have to come off as any turning of the engine could further damage it. You may not have bent any valves.
