well, after a "drift" accident a couple days ago, my rear driver's side coilover has been acting a little odd..seemed to have compressed/got lowered..

i remember having the rears quite high because i never adjusted it from how i got it.. and it seems to have less than what it was before.

i messed up my inner tie rod in the accident and replaced it, buti dont see why my rear coilover could be blown??

does anyone know what the symptoms of a blown shock is?i didnt see anything leaking from the actual coilover.. btw, this is a Ksport coilover. i know its ****ty, i just rode on em for a couple thousand mi. and this happened.

i can hear a little tap sound when i go into neutral.. but im sure its there even when im just crusing.. i just cant hear it b/c of my exhaust.

its a faint tapping sound.. you could HARDLY hear it if you tried.

What did you hit? a curb?

does the car drive straight after you fixed it? I know when my car was curbed pretty bad (not by me) there was a lot more bent then what appeared to be..

A blown coilover (i think) will just keep bouncing. Like if you push that side of the car it should bounce and stop, but a blown one will bounce a couple more times..

Or your strut could be loose, grab it with vice grips and tighten the bolt on top, (if its loose)

wellfirst, i found out that one side was lower than the other..the bottom casing was lower.. i'll post pics of it as well.

and.. still sounds like its clunking and crap..i hope itsnot blown./.. nothing leaked from it.but one side had slower rebound...

I had the same problem with my previous S14. Unfortunately I cannot offer you an answer because the car was totaled before I ever figured it out, but it had to have been frame damage I think. This weekend I just swapped all my suspension parts onto my new S14 and the car sits fine, no one corner is lower than the others. Yay.

a blown coilover means the shock(shock valving) is no longer working.

The height of the car has nothing to do with the shocks. Shocks resist motion to dampen the oscilations of the springs (stopping them from bouncing). A shock could be compleatly blown and it would make no differance to the car while it was sitting still.

The ride height of the car is determined by the stiffness and length of the spring, as well as the positions of its perches.

So for the car to be lowered something had to have bent or broken.Of the top of my head something that could lower the car after an inpact:-strut tower pushed further upward, moving upper mounting point/the whole shock upward.-suspension arm bent so the strut sits at more of an angle.-Shock bent.

You replaced the inner tie rod, so Im guessing it had to get an alignment? Most of the stuff im talking about would make alignment numbers pretty off.

still didnt get an alignment.anyways, like i said, the rebound is slow and a bouncy ride is apparent.

now i just need to contact matt to see if he has the invoice so i can get this through ksports warranty...

sucks.. oh well

btw..im hearing clunking noises from my front driver's side wheel..only at low speeds and disappears when i step on the brakes..

anyone know what this could be?
