I've been running an electric cooling fan for about 2 months (3000 miles). It's set to run constant with ingnition on.

I have it hooked up with a relay and 30a fuse. Today it blew it's fuse and blew 2 more that I tried to replace it with. I checked to see if any wires had worn insulation and were grounding, but everything looked fine.

My guess is that the motor is going bad and is drawing too many amps now ?? Anyone have something similar happen ?

Spin the fan with your hand and see if it spins freely. If it doesnt spin freely the bearing are going bad. You might be able to replace the bearing bit if it is like my dads BMW you will have to get a new fan motor. If it does spin freely i would open the relay to check the contack points (since you said the wiring is ok) or you could keep it simple and use a ohm meter to check the resistance from the relay to the fan. To double check the wiring get two electrical wires and put a inline fuse in one and run them straight to the battery and see if the fuse blows. If it doesnt you know it is the wiring.

Hope this helps

you will constanly blow fuses if you run your fan from the fuse box, i di it for about a week until i realized thats its a viscious cycle.

also, you do not need a 30 weight fuse for your fans. was the 30 amp in the realy(you used a realy right?) or in the fuse box?

you can either run the fans into the ac, get a thermostat for it, or you can wire it uop to a switch inside the cabin.

mies wired to a switch, you ground the fan, then take the positive (it could be either wire depending on if your pusher or puller) and run it to the switch, then from the switch to your positive battery terminal.

make shre you use a relay, a 20 or 25 wieght fuse wiil sufice.

good luckmatt
