Hi all....

Got my '03 sedan back in mach this year, and have noticed this "problem"(?) a few times. While sitting in traffic, windows down, a/c off, manual fan on, climate control temp. set to outside temp. (20 degrees C), the air blowing in gets very hot.....as if I had the heater on full. When the traffic clears and I get up to hwy speeds, the air blows cooler (same as outside temp). Is this normal for this car, or is it time for a visit to the dealer? Hate to have to turn the a/c on in traffic all the time.TIA

This sounds normal b/c of the engine heat that rises out of the hood as you stand still gets sucked into the vent. And w/o the a/c on there's no way to cool it off. Once you get moving again the air cools the engine off some and doesn't have time to sit and get heated before getting sucked into the vents. Sounds pretty normal to me unless the air coming in is always hot even when you're moving. If that was teh case it would sound as if your heater is stuck on.

Passing thru cowl vents and passed hot fan motor and thru under dash components can raise the hood ambient by 5-10F depending on solar index [watts per cm^2].

If you bother to test road air temp vs radio [measured in shade above grass] you will find ANOTHER 5-10F difference.

Vents are only usuable when below 62F [20C] radio ambient.

Measure the exhaust temperature of the cars trucks in front of you idling ~~200F.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess cars like these should be driven with the windows up a/c on anyway. ;-)
