i'm pretty sure that when you let off the throttle and the throttle body closes a bov will release all the boost pressure preventing it from traveling back to the turbo and or creating to much boost pressure

Exactly. Except it doesn't make too much pressure, it just makes it so that there is no place for the pressure to go. Without a BOV, the air has to get out somehow, so it goes backwards through the turbo compressor and makes it "surge," or change direction very fast which basically kills it. A BOV just lets that air out so it has a place to go besides the turbo.

I would, cheap insurance. why risk killing a turbo over something as cheap as a BOV. you can score a DSM BOV on fleabay cheap, and if your like most you won't stay at 5 psi long anyways

simply put, at 5 psi you dont NEED one. lots of people run no bov at high boost numbers cause they like the sound of surge. its recommended, but not required. would i get one? yes.

yes use a bov, it prevents air from "reversing" thru ur turbo what ultimatly could cause a compressr wheel to break off or to prevent you from breakin a turbo shaft

If you want a kind of permanent way to increase boost, you can add some small washers to the bolts that hole on the wastegate. This way it will take more pressure to make the wastegate flap open. You can take the washers off when you feel like lowering your boost again, but it's obviously not as controllable as a boost controller. Just get an ebay boost controller and a boost gauge so you know how much boost you are running.

Very good prices for a knock off BOV. That price is with shipping! http://www.xs-power.com/blow-off-valves.htm

Like stated above. just pick up a MBC and you'll be good to go.http://motors.search.ebay.com/...fgtp=Oh don't forget a Boost gauge.
