im running a gt2871r .86 a/r on my s13 sr20det redtop. I am getting blow by from my tial bov. I am running 16lbs. of boost steady and as soon i let off the gas it sprays oil out of my bov. my guess is that i think my turbo is shot. I have a catch can to help the blow by but it i guess it is bypassing the can to the bov. my car is not smoking at all from the turbo other than black smoke as soon as i punch on the gas. now my bov is on the cold side of the i/c piping do you think that is an issue or do i need to put it on the hot side. need help if anyone have any opinions.

I've seen a lot of SR's with good turbos that does that. Especially when they're boosting on the high side also. Mine was doing that, but that was because I didn't have an oil catch can at the time. Now the catch can catches most the oil under spirited driving.

well it is kind of strange after a while seeing a nice little puddle of oil just saturating the bov. but so in other words this is normal???

....just because you have a catch can doesnt make it right

Only two things cause that kind of blow by...

1. weak oil rings

2. bad turbo seal

if your turbo is new, its probably your rings...not to be the guy with the bad news...just being real with you, when this started happening to my old SR, it was the rings....do a compression check and see what you come up with...you should be 155-160 accorss theb board...

quick question now does the 2871r have a built in restrictor in them if so i think i have found my problem. but their is a discussion about if the 2871r needs to run a restrictor some people said no and some said yes and have not eventually came to conclusion if it needs it or not. well if it doesnt need it then i probably found the problem. any inputs fellows.
