Q45 tech mentioned this process in another thread.

I know the computer "learns" a drivers individual driving patterns and adjusts tuning for it. Exactly what is involved in this? Does the ECU richen or lean the mixture, adjust timing, and valve timing etc? What changes are made based on different driving? Hard driving.....average driving....careful easy economy driving...How are each of these addressed?

Oops, sorry for the typo in the subject line. I guess that line can't be edited.

Each bank can be fuel timmed +- 20% based on the abnormal deviations of O2 sensors. The fuel trim is the amount + or minus away from preprogrammed ideal for rpm and load and MAF numbers.

Adaptive learning occurs in closed loop cruising and is partially referred too in WOT just not the full 20% that might occur in steady speed.

When I idled with a dead cylinder [injector] that banks adapative learn went to 115% vs 100% for the good bank.

All fully exaplained in FSM.
