how do i tell what yr my engine is? sorry,.. i found this last night and can't find it now! its a red top sr from an s13 with the ribs on the front!

I think he meant its got ribbed block on the front where the head is, pics of engine and ecu would help.

i think you guys are missing what i'm saying, i read a post where you could decipher the serial #'s off of the block to tell a production date. but i do get what your sayin about the ecu i never thought about that. i'll look at it in the a.m. the truck is at my work! thanks for the input!

I have never heard of this.There is some stamping on the block, on the exhaust side near where the bellhousing is bolted on. But I don't believe that this stamping means anything to us.

Example of the stamping:

Granted it is from a FWD SR, but the RWD has the same stamping in the same location.

thats what i'm talking about i could've swore that i found a post that broke those numbers down to a date, and assebly plant and some other info! maybe i'm wrong but i thought i ran across it in a thread last nite!
