With a recent cold snap in Alberta, I just wanted to know what you guys do with your block heater plugs. In my last car, I just let it hang down carelessly and it eventually got totally eaten up as I drove around. This is the first winter where I'm in a place I can plug in my Pathy.

I'm thinking of using stainless steel cable ties (like these) to secure it to the lower grille. Out of sight, still decently accessible, safe from road debris. Probably going to pick some up tomorrow, can take pics if you wanted a better explanation.

Any other ideas?

I'd use some good marine-grade plastic cable ties. Ancor is the name brand. Any ship's chandlery will have them.

Marine-grade electrical stuff is pricy, but it's WAAAAY better than the auto partsstore stuff.

summary of steps for 4wd:

R50/JR50 PATHFINDER/QX4 ENGINE BLOCK HEATERINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This engine block heater is iinstalled in the rear core plug hole on the driver's side. For access to this core plug, the front differential housing must be removed.

Basically have to detatch the front prop shaft front flange from the diff flange

Remove 6 bolts attaching the drive shafts to diff housing.Seperate drive shafts from diff housing

Remove bolts attatching diff housing.Lower and remove diff housing.

The engine heater is installed in the rear core plug on the drivers side of the engine block.

Drain coolant. Remove specified core plug.......

This is for Nissan part no: 999M1-CH000 (made in Canada)

Piece of Cake..... which is why it has been sitting in my Nissan parts container for a number of years.....

2wd would elimiate all the driveshaft etc steps.

Wow, that is a huge PITA for such a small item. I would probably rather build a garage to keep the vehicle in than install the block heater.

U said it! Obviously if I had known or researched it I wouldnt have ordered it. Luckily the Path sits in the garage most of the time. And it usually doesnt get Canada cold out here, but sometimes it does.
