I blew my motor recently and decided to tear it down and go about fixing it with my friends and I. This would be my first time doing this so I'm looking for some experienced people to chime in with their opinions:

After completely disassembling the motor, this is what we found:Damaged Rod:

I think I'm one of the few people to bend stock SR rods with such low power figures :/ Careless mistakes.. >_<

Block Damage:

My question:

Do you think this block would be ok with an .020 overbore? The piston never goes down that far during its stroke... but I'm not sure if that matters

I think you'd be fine with an 86.5mm piston. The rings never make it that far down, but I'd check for stress cracks because that wasn't a light hit..

yep, definitely not a light hit. it wasn't cranking over so I used starter fluid in the throttle body while cranking... bad idea -_-

ewww.

Being that the connecting rod was bent and so it did travel lower I would probably assume that the piston hit that piece more than once so you might have possible cracks that you wont be able to see up front.

If it were me I would just get another block to be safe but I mean the rings won't travel that far down as was already said so you might be bale to get away with it.

wow that sucks...I would take it to a qualified engine builder and get there opinion. They might see something in person that isn't visible to people on the web.
