Need some help here.

83 720 KC with about 240,000 miles

It was leaking coolant out of the pass side last cylinder between head and block. So I figure blown gasket. Take down and all apart and gasket is not blown. So new gasket and torque all down and fill with coolant and What the heck it leaks more now same spot not even under pressure.

The head is not severly warped and block looks ok no cracks. I would figure for it to leak that much there would be a big gap??? And you would tell by just looking at the head? I checked the head with a straight edge and no glaring gap.

So how do I check the head for warpage and how much is Ok. If it has to be milled can they do it with the valves in it or does the head have to come apart?

seems to me like it is probably warped enough to cause the leak... a small gap is probably enough to cause the leak you have simply because once its running the system gets pressurized decently

there has been talk in the past that the Z head is prone to warping... so take it to a shop and have them check it out

i believe that as long as all that they are doing is milling it, there is no need to take out everything, although some shops may require you to do so

are you sure it was leaking at the arrows there is a passage for water just above that maybe the intake manifold has a crack or the intake gasket was leaking I know that I am slow on the post just curious about what you found the area you have the leak is common for many different engines to have problems because it is the farthest from the radiator and is the hottest part of an engine.

look at the port on the intake where the leak is coming from
