I have the Versa 1.8 S sedan. I notice a blinking red key light in the car when I park my car. Is this normal?

Ya it's the security feature that comes w/ the car. My 08SL has it too ...

Nothing to worry about ....

I've always thought it's to fake potential thiefs that your car alarm is set, but I have a Versa and no alarm and the light still blinks. Probably to fake out criminals

It just means that your car is locked.

I don't have the factory alarm either, but I do have the chip in my key. It's just their small security feature that comes with the V.

Here's something to try. At the gas station, leave your window open but lock the car. After you get your gas, reach through the window and open the door from the inside without unlocking it. You'll find out if it's fake soon enough. I've done that by mistake and been quite embarrassed!

It means the car recognizes your key.

I just noticed my red light last night. I only got one key as well, so does that mean I can't go to Wal-Mart and get a spare made for my girlfriend? I might stop back at the dealership and make sure I wasn't supposed to get a second key anyway.

All cars come with two keys, so yes, check with the dealer.

You should have been given two keys. One set should have a small id tag on it in order for you to get a replacement made in the future. With the chip in the key you can't go get one at Wal-Mart, you need one from the dealership w/ the built in chip; otherwise your car will not start.

Sigh, looks like I'll be going to the dealership tonight.
