I came across this link from another forum and wanted to share it here.

It reduces the blind spot by reducing the overlapping view from the side mirrors and the rear view mirror.

Another way to do this is to position your head in the middle of the car and then set your side mirrors just like you would as if your head was positioned in the driver's seat.

For some people this is actually a problem though, or a personal preference. I myself, like to just barely be able to see the side of my car for spacial reasons. You may reduce a blind spot, but you can never eliminate it for all instances, so there is no substitute for the good ole head turn.

This seems like a lot of work!

I used to have my mirrors set up like you with the side of the car barely on the mirror. i do realize that there would be no real way of getting rid of all the blind spots but with the mirrors set further out, i can see more of the road. So all in one motion i look in the side mirrors and then out the window to double check. I guess its a preference thing too, but it makes lane changing in traffic more comfortable for me.

Or we could just use convex mirrors everywhere lol.

I'm not a huge fan of the round convex because of the distortion on both axis, but having side mirrors that were curved would open up the viewing angle a lot.
