So as some of you may i know, i just upgraded my turbo from a eBay GT28R to a Garrett GT2871R .86 a/r. Well, this turbo is sick. Spools late, but when it hits boost, hold the f@!% on!! I got it up to 20 PSI (have supporting fuel mods) and was doing GREAT. Well, all that boost blew out the seal in the throttle body. I remember reading about someone else having this issue, but cant find the thread. The seal in particular is the one the actuator goes through on the side. And if it matters, im using a KA24E throttle body for the dual actuators (cruise control).

Is there a fix for this or do i just have to find a new(er) throttle body?

IDK of any fix. You'll prob just have to get another TB.

Is it difficult to get cruise control working in a car not equipped with it?

Im pretty sure you are talking about me, i had the issue with that seal leaking under boost. I heard you could take the TB to a bearing shop and they MIGHT have someting for you but its a big ?.

I just bought another CA TB and it was all good.

they all leak the slightest bit at that point there. some are tighter than others but push lots of pressure through it and its not an airtight seal.

My car was originally equipped with it so all i had to do was swap a KA24E throttle body onto it and jump a wire from the ECU to the cruise module.

I guess it was you. I may try and dissassemble it and see what im looking at. And its a pretty noticable leak. I can pressurize the intake system using a boost leak detector i made, and the throttle body leaks pretty noticably. So much so that the system wont hold pressure. I still have my stock CA tb, so i may just use that in the meantime.

I was told it should be possible to match something up, i never had the time and just bought another one. I wish i could be more help. I know the feeling, i leak tested for 2 months and i finally stumbled upon it being the TB.

I used the ebay GT28R for about 10 months. I got it to 16lb on a manual boost controller. It whined pre-boost, but made nice boost and was really kinda decent, esp since it was only $400. But stupid me started my car up from a dead cold at work, backed out of the parking spot, and proceeded to bounce it off the rev limiter as i left the parking lot sideways. Turbo stopped boosting soon after that. But trust me, there is no comparison to a Garrett. Except the price tag, that is.

As far as tuning, i do have 550cc injectors, a Z32 MAF, a Nismo adjustable FPR, and a Walbro fuel pump, all tuned with a ROM tune on my socketed ECU. Currently im changing out the water pump (started grinding, i know the bearings are going out), so while ive got the car sitting up, im going to install my Autometer EGT gauge, just to make sure ive got things good for even higher boosting (hehehe, metal headgasket, ARP main studs and head studs, and ACL Calico coated bearings were a smart investment when i built this motor, and now we can see why....).

Sounds like a decent resultQuote »make sure ive got things good for even higher boosting [/quote]will you upgrade to more custom tuning for beyond 20psi.... which one ?any cams in the future... source ?sounds like a cool setup!

I actually socketed the ECU and tuned the chip myself. Not my first one, i did one for my built SOHC n/a KA that came out for the CA. I didnt mess with timing maps or fuel maps on this one yet, only tuned for injectors, MAF, rev limit and speed limit removal.

I think the next engine upgrade is going to be a set of Tomei Poncams (256's). Im gonna try and stick to just the ROM tune, since i really can change anything i want, its just going to be trial and error. And yes, i really want to boost past 20lbs now, esp since this turbo is just waking up at 15lbs.
