going to tear it down next week. If its too damaged I might attempt a vq30de-t swap next month, got a motor and trans lined up but no harness or mounts. Any ideas?

id stick with a rebuild, and if its too bad to repair, personally, i would consider the rb swap. How did you blow it? track? street?

good job slick just tell everyone ur gas gauge is broke so they don't laugh (only girls run out of gas) just kidding. My engine still runs but it sounds like a hemi cuda w/ a nasty valve tap which wouldn't be so bad if i didn't have to worry about destroying my head. My guess i threw a valve could also be a rod bearing though. Thats what i get for reving it to 6800 everyday.

hey wat does a valve tap sound like because I swapped a 95 ka24de into my s13 and had to change a leaky intake manifold gasket and ever since that there has been a knock, sounds like a lifter tick or something like that and only knocks at idle, any clue wat that might be or could it possibly be a valve tap?

ur timing chain guides are probably worn. theres a write up in the how to section. Valve tap sounds just like a loud very clear TAP TAP TAP in sync w/ the revs of the motor. The timing chain sounds more like a rattle noise it still is in rythm w/ the motor though.(imagine a bike chain rubbing on a piece of metal at 750 rpms under a valve cover.)

the top timing chain guide was removed so I doubt it is that lol. It is more of like a knock knock knock sound and only does it at idle and goes away when I give it a little gas, any ideas people because I think it may be a lifter tick?
