So i recently purchased a convertible 240sx, after lots of little problems i finally had the car running and looking pretty damn good for under a months work. a friend of mine who works at my job (autozone) recommended i put seafoams in the car and run it for 500 miles, then change the oil. I did, put in new synthetic blend oil with a bottle of lucas, and 3 days later heard this horible knocking while driving. pulled over and realized that i had no oil on my dip stick. i filled it back up, but since then ive been smelling this horrible burning smell, my cars been knocking horribly, and it doenst start sometimes, and if it does, it dies 2 min later

i think im f u c k e d..... any one have any brilliant ideas or any suggestions....i dont have alote of money to jus drop and sr20 in this car or take it somwhere to have the engine rebuilt, plus im not to fond of how this trannies been acting.....an ideas anyone???

um yea get a new engine and trans, as much as you hate to hear it. ill bet that a gasket was gunked up and thats what was sealin it so once you seafoamed it it cleaned that gunk and wam big oil leak which is why you didnt have oil on the stick. so replace or rebuild my friend. but id drop the pan and just check the oil pump screen and see if its clogged, that could be stoppin enough oil from getting to the head and makin it knock.

also synthetic oil in high mile engines is not a good idea, natural oil has a larger molecule which creates grooves in the cylinder walls, smaller synthetic molecules blast through these grooves like a rocket. making you burn oil after the synthetic switch.

thats actually what i heard from a few people, but checking the oil screen sounds like a great idea.

find an SR20 and sell your block for scrap on the forums. If your found a new ka power plant, you'd probably just have to convert to manual any ways which would be extra work

You did change the filter when you changed the oil right?

I would give it one last try with new filter and fresh regular oil before you give up on the engine. It may work well enough to keep you on the road while you get ready for the swap or rebuild.

Once it starts knocking regularly it is only a matter of time before its done. Could be 2 minutes or 2 years but it will go.

you can save your self the 3 grand of coin you will loose with a swap..if your not racing..you dont need a swapp...just rebuild it with an OEM rebuild kit..its like 200 to 300 bucks and your time...shouldent take more than a week and some friends/tools..good luck what ever you decide.

Does that price include any machine work needed or is that parts only?
