I have some tapping coming from my valve cover which I suspect to be my HLAs. How do I go about getting them out to bleed them. I understand how to bleed them via the FSM, but it didn't really state how to remove them. Any help would be appreciated, Alex.

Pliers, or whatever. They shouldnt be stuck in there, except for the oil under them causing pressure to hold them in place.

Well its either you had it fixed or not but I had the same problem. Just check your oil pan for any kind of dents, even the smallest dents can kill your motor. Get syn. oil and rev your motor at 2 rpm on and off for about 20 minutes. It should fix your ticking or tapping noise. Good Luck

You're probably pulling at an akward angle. It'll come out with pliers like SpeedRacer1 has said.

1) Follow the FSM for valvetrain removal2) Take a bowl close to 10" round and 6" deep and pour 1-2 quarts of oil in it. I mentioned these dimensions because I used a coffee can, and it didn't have enough diameter for me to get both of my hands in.3) One by one, remove the HLA's and soak them in oil. Keeping it submersed the whole time, hold it upright with one hand and use a paperclip or other similarly-sized, strong metal piece to depress the ball check per FSM instructions. While you do this, pump the plunger until you can't press it down anymore.

I was able to remove my HLA's with oily hands, and reinstall them the same way, so I'm not sure why it takes pliers. If you do use pliers, take care not to damage the HLA. Make sure they're turned the same way when you put them back in, BTW.

I did this 2 weeks ago, and ended up needing some clarification on the bleeding process. I searched on FA and found some instructions that helped me understand a helluva lot better than the FSM did. Good luck!

yup..they pull out by hand. I would not recommend pliers b/c you will score the top where the rocker sits. Just give it some gentle pressure or spin them while pulling. be persisten...they WILL come out

Thanks for the tips everyone, I haven't had time to do this yet but I still plan on it. The ticking is coming from the intake side and I don't think the injectors are this loud. I run full syn oil already so its not an oil issue. 2Fass240us, do you bychance have the link on FA you used? Thanks again, Alex.
