Me and a friend of my Dads where talking (He owns an auto shop) and i was telling him how much of a PITA it was to bleed the coolant system on KA's (i need to change my thermostat) and that i always avoid doing anything that requires me to mess with it. He told me to take 2 aspirin's and prop the thermostat open then install it. fill with coolant then run the car for a few min till warm. no need to bleed the system and once all the air is out the aspirin will dissolve and your good to go. Its an old hot rod trick. just thought i would share.

Still probably needs to be on an incline or jacked up in the front for the air to go to the top of the system and escape, there is no real easy fix, just sometimes you are lucky and don't have to redo it about 3-4 times.

There are a few simple fixes. Like the one he just described.

The thermostat on the KA is right in the way of letting air escape upwards, and letting water fill the top hose. Hence the little bleeder at the top. Super simple concept. Think about it.

My personal favorite, is drill 6 or 8, 1/8" holes in the ring on the outside of the thermostat. That lets the air by. LoL Or you can just drill one 1/8" hole, and place it in the 12'oclock position.

I think the aspirin idea is genius. There is a sticky around here with a few different methods of bleeding the KA. The aspirin idea should be added to it.

thanks, but I already know how to do that. I was just posting a way to help speed up the bleeding process. and also you left out the bleeder screw which plays a big part it letting all the air out.

Hey has anyone ever heard of bleeding the coolant system like below? seems so much easier!

"YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BLEED LINES OR DO FLUSHES!!!This is the problem with the car, the radiator during cold times stays low and improperly pulls from the reserve. Let your car sit over night and then open the radiator and then fill up the radiator directly to the brim. DON'T FILL THE RESERVE. What happens is when you fill the radiator, then turn the engine on it creates suction that pushes the airpocket into the reserve and out of the lines. You may have to try it again the next morning inorder to make sure the radiator is full to the brim. But after that, you will never have a problem again!!!! I'm going 2 weeks str8 with not even a hint of cold air at idle, damn near cooking my *** at a red light lolGood Luck to all!!!! "
