About three weeks ago, I put HICAS front steering rack, aluminium steering bushing, and new polyurethane steering rack bushings in my car. First 2 days, I had no freeplay in my steering wheel input and the car handling was like go-cart. Then I began to get a lot of freeplays.
As I began to do some research on this, I learned that I forgot to bleed air off my new steering rack and PS system. Asked a friend and he told me to turn steering wheel lock to lock several times to bleed air off.
So I have been doing that before I drive out of my driveway. Freeplay get eliminated but comes back in 10-15 minutes of driving. I did more research on this and found following method which I did today afternoon.
1. Raised both front wheels2. Filled PS reservoir full and left cap off.3. Took PS pump belt off. and rotated by hand the pulley backwards slowly. for 30 times 4. Installed the belt and started engine.5. With engine on, turned the tires side by side via the tires by hand for 10 times.6. Turned the steering wheel from side to side twice.7. Lowered the car and turned the wheel from one side, hit the limiter for 1 sec and the to the other side from on sec. Did this once.
Freeplay has decreased some what but still remains a lot. But when I lock the steering wheel to either side to park the car, I hear griding noises or huge vibration on the steering wheel time to time.
I really want to get rid of free play on my steering wheel and get that go-cart feel back. What should I do?
