ok i was looking for a redtop but it just so happens that while looking for a redtop i came across a s13 blacktop for the same price $1600. what do you guys think is this a decent deal? i'm really worried about it i keep reading posts of people that get motors and they knock or blow up. it's my first year of college and to see $1600 go to waste will suck. i'm going to look at it on friday....to look.....if it seems like everything is ok with it i'm prob gunna buy it if not im gunna tell the guy to get lost.

That's a good price for a black top. You should ask him to give you a warranty for at least 30 days. That means that the engine should be able to run for 30 days without problems. I don't know if he will go for it, but it always worthy to try. You're not loosing anything.

Doesn't sound like you know what to do but I'll suggest it either way.

If you're able to, or know someone that can, get a compression test done on it, and a leak down test.

thats a good price for a swap. but keep in mind that to do the swap correctly you need to spend some extra cash replacing a few things. Like the oil pump, water pump, thermostat, and I would replace all the exhaust gaskets. The more things you replace now, the less things you will have to replace in the next few months. I swapped mine in without replacing anything and sure enough, bad oil pressure, bad gaskets, and a bad pcv system all within 4 weeks. thats my .02

but definitely see about a compression test. If you cant do it, ask him to do it taking pictures of the readings from each cylinder.

awesome thanks guys, and yea i'v been doing alot of research....magic search bar haha. i asked him about the compression test and he said they do it, so im gunna have him do it when i get down there and i plan on replacing some of the things mentioned. i'v been dreaming of doing this to my hatch since i got it my junior year in highschool, so if im gunna do it, i'm doing it right. i don't even care how long it takes me, i wanted to get it done this summer but if i don't big deal, the smile on my face driving it without problems is def worth it haha. i'm kinda sketched out by the place....JDMenginedepot....cuz i was just reading a post yesterday about some guy that got a motor from there and a bunch of crap broke and they didn't want anything to do with him.....aka...he got screwed. i'm just taking it slow cuz i don't want that to happen to me.

last thing. just say i get there and the motor is a piece of crap anybody know of anywhere that imports good motors thats within driving distance from scranton PA? i want to be able to look at what i'm buying before i hand him all the money that i'v been saving to buy this thing haha.

Thanks again!

If your talking Jdm Engine Depot in Kearney NJ.

They have bargain deals for sure but like anything you get what you pay for. They do honor there 30 day start up warranty if its catastrophic internal failure. But if its things like harness, ignitior, etc. they most likley wont. ( i know because of a incomplete harness)

bro there is a video on youtube telling everyone to stay away from that company.. honestly you would be better off going to a more legit company like jhot.. They'll make sure its a good motor and thats worth the extra $$

when investing in something like this, u shouldnt skimp out on a reputable company for a lower price. more n likely, u gonna kick urself for it later.me and my buddy went with jarco inc for our 180sx and soarer front clips. great customer service. they are even willing to show u videos of the actual car running in japan before they cut it and ship it over. heard nothing but good things from other people as well.

ok i'll def keep all of this in mind. but all these places everyones is talking about are really far away. i want to be able to look at the motor before i buy it. thats y i'm driving down to NJ tomorrow.

i wish heavy throttle was still open new york isin't far at all. if i was from CA i'd be right down any of these other places, but i don't feel like driving across the country or down to texas haha.

unless i get my best friend to fly me down cuz he has his pilot's license haha.

is there any other's around the northeast?

thanks for all the helps guys, i'd be lost without nico.

There are one or two in Pa reputable shops that start up the motor on site. Cant remember the name. Google it?

In Jersey theres Jdm engine depot, Jdm engines Inc. (Paterson NJ), and one in Clifton NJ cant remember the name also.
