Hey everyone, im looking into buying a 92 240 with a Blacktop, and the seller tells me that the car spews black smoke under load. He's using the Ka24E MAF. I don't know if he has a fat or skinny O2 sensor, and he says hes running a chipped ECU. Could the chipped ECU cause it to run way too rich?

Also he said that in order to get the gauge cluster working, he had to modify the wiring going to it. What would be the reason for that? Doesn't the 92 and up cluster work without any rewiring? Could he be using an 89 to 91 cluster? Thanks for the help in advance.

89 and 90 work as well. The only thing that stops working with the gauges is the Tach. Which, this works if you get a dohc cluster/tach for it. Also, why is the ECU chipped? What else is done to the motor. It could definitely be an overly rich tune.

Could be Blow off valve not being recirc. That happened to me. Or bad gas. Had that happen too.
