i am doing my sr swap right now. i have a s13 blacktop sr20det. does that have vvl/vvt? how do know if it does or not? also i am looking at this harness....link if i do have vvl/vvt what would i have to do to that harness to make it work? is it possible? i know vvt is like vtech on a honda but is it variable valve timing? any other info on this subject would be greatly helped. Thank you in advance

Did not come on S13 SR's, you do not have VTC.

VTC is nothing like Hondas Vtech system. It is engaged from about 1000RPM's to around 5000RPM's to give S14 and S15 SR20's a slight boost in low to midrange torque. Then it shuts off, unlike VTech which kicks in at high RPM's and runs all the way to redline.

Chances are VTC helps with emissions as well.

oh, good.... i was wondering about that.... i dont have emissions here so not worried about all that... So that harness will work on my car right? i am almost positive it will, just wanted to make sure before i drop 300 bucks on it. What are the advantages/disadvantages of running open wastegate? that is how you get that "turkey call" sound right?

Leaving the wastegate unplugged means that it will stay closed. If this occurs, the turbo will spool to outrageous amounts (somewhere in the low 20 psi range) and blow up within a few minutes (or seconds) of hard driving. Its a good way to blow a turbo fast.

That harness will work for all 1991-1996 S13 SR20DET's. S13 SR20DET's from the 1997-1998 model year use a slightly different harness. But basically the same harness with a couple of wires that need to be repinned. For a new harness, $300 is just about the best price you will find, some places sell the wiring harness for $450+ used.
