Blacked out roof rail?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi there
I am wondering if anyone painted or otherwise blacked out their roof rail and what it looks like? I have them on a black car, and finds them super practical but saw a FX and the onwer did that. Looked rather good but he was speeding away and I did not get a good look. Plasti-dip anyone, perhaps? :)

I would try the Plasti-Dip to see how it looks.

Post some pictures of whatever you decide to do.

Will contemplate doing so later this summer, if we get a summer that is!

I am pretty sure Plasti Dip is the way to go to cover the rail with different color.

If Plasti Dip works on the high heat brake caliper and rims, there is no problem using it on the rail. Infact, I researched it online bec. I have to paint my Cusco strut bar from color blue to red. I just realized that the part of the tower bar that connects to the strut has so many angles and it will be hard to file that in order to remove the blue paint. Then i found the Plasti Dip! :dblthumb:

Menards sells it cheaper than LOWEs or home depot. I got 2 cans for $15 tax included.

i would love to see an EX with a blacked out grill, rear emblems, roof rails/cross bars and stock wheels. Anyone done that yet? My son just plasti-dipped (spray cans) his RSX wheels and I was blown away at how much better it made it look.

Very curious how this will look. Especially on a black ex!

Guys, as much as I want to plasti dip the rear Infiniti emblem of my EX35 , the exhaust tips and removed/debadge the EX35 lettering, I decided to keep it the way it is. I actually bought a Gunmetal color Plasti dip spray can already to match my gunmetal rims.

I realized, that I can make the EX35 look JDM with gunmetal rims (less girly looking) but the plasti dip exterior will point it towards the " RICER" side category.
As much as I hate the old school chrome accents of the EX35/37 it kindda make it a bit classy looking and it does match the huge chrome tips. :bigthumb:

The only exceptions are the black roof rail and the chrome around the windows and the door handles are ok to plasti dip black in my opinion, but hey! Whatever makes you happy! :rotfl

I am still itching to remove the EX35 emblems on the rear though... Makes the car look more unique, since I have only seen 3 EX35 (wait, the other one is my car :rotflmao ) here in WI with no roof rail for the past 6 years.

I feel like driving a GTR. I had only seen 2 here so far :lolling:

Just to chip in, I think making the roof rails black on a black car will make the car look unnecessarily tall, wouldn't it? I'll pass on that ungainly look. Although black rails on any other colour would be fine I think.

Good point. I have a black EX-the same concerns and had this thought too. At least the silver rails kind of disappear visually now. I just wish mine had no rack. Would still like to see pics if some ones gone black.

Wilburfierce, pls. Txt me. sent you a couple of emails.... :gapteeth:

BTW a, my wife told me that having a rail makes the car looks manly. Hmm no wonder why I always see my car curvy and sexy without the rail.... I need a Manly car! :chuckle:

I didn't do the rails, but I did paint my grill and rear emblems.
