Parts are much easier to find for the SR. Lots of people are using that motor and you'll be able to find lots of forums with helpful advice for it. I'd say the SR would be a better bet.

God blessed the CA, The Virgin Mary blessed the SR. Take your pick would you want a man blessing your motor or some chick?

That was a good one Chosen. I like the CA because it requires less goodies to make it fast. That is just my opinion though.

Do some more research on the engines. Since you don't know too much about either I would suggest not buying either until you understand both set ups.

Get the 4.3 diff that came paired with the CA in Japan if you want to drift with it....otherwise go with the SR.

the CA all day, or you can be what "everyone else" is using because that is just so cool these days. i'd rather open up hood and ppl have no idea where i've got my parts from and just how fun this motor is. period.

ca18det is about $1000 less than an sr. if you damage the engine drifting, you won't be out as much buying another one.

I am thinking in terms of reliability. Of course the SR has a bit more power than the CA, but you have to add in things like rocker arm stoppers (as an example) and such if you plan on doing more than daily driving. Like I said, just my opinion..................

yea but how much of that aftermarket support is Bull**** parts?

All the important parts for the CA dont require special order and other motors are interchangable.

From my own experiences the CA gets no love here in Australia. They are always transplanting SR's in CA powered Silvia/180SX's. Its very hard to find performance parts from the local aftermarket & usually CA performance parts cost almost double compared to the CA equivalent. Like i said, these are from my experiences. Thats all.

Australia is also a completely different environment compared to the states. Here neither the CADET or the SRDET came factory in any vehicles.

CA performance parts are only very slightly less available than SR parts. All stock replacement parts for a CA are just a trip down to the local Autozone or Nissan dealership away, unlike many SR parts.

As far as reliability, an engine is only as reliable as the builder/tuner/driver for the most part.

either motor will work. So will a KA and I am willing to bet you already have one now don't you. Drifting is abusive on the motor especially with a newb behind the wheel that thinks lieaning on the rev limiter is a viable driving technique. With the CA you will cough up a rod, the SR will split it's rocker arms.

you can make whatever engine you want to use, perform how you want it to by building it the right way. Personally I'll always stick with a CA. There's nothing I dont know about them that I'll ever need to, and I'm happy I could change my setup and completely alter the way the engine performs. Best way with things like this is to pick the base you're happiest working with and make it work for you. Any engine is what you make it, not what everyone tells you it is
